Bung:

This is like the "alleged offender" , does the ONT boot or not? I would have thought Chorus would know how their fibre was installed. It would be difficult to put a brand new concrete drive on top of a typical direct bury install without damaging the fibre.

The missing power supply is starting to smell like an attempt to delay finding that the fibre is dead.

We got the power supply, hooked it up and the ONT boots, LAN wiring was registered, but the ONT light was displaying red - leading us to believe an issue somewhere.

But you're right, I suspect it was a known issue and attempt to cover up. Heck even the adjacent f-type connector was painted over.. I don't even....

Batman:

It says in the state of repair at the time of the agreement.

Any emails saying that there is fibre? Any marketing material saying they're is fibre?

Honestly don't know the details, but looking up at the online listing again it wasn't mentioned. I have not sighted the S&P in full to comment either

Is that actually dead fibre or just no isp connected? If the fibre was cut wouldn't the 1st option apply?

another question I guess is would it be feasible to run a new cable like through grass/soil sections rather than having to dig up the driveway?

Also another point I'm raising as an idea - ultimately out of my hands but even slightly distanced to this whole scenario makes me feel so enraged at the previous owner!!

I know how you feel

My parents were mislead by an agent for the house we purchased, wasn't till after that we found out the whole downstairs lounge gets flooded during med/heavy rain in winter.

The owners/agent tried to hide it by whenever we were there to inspect it the house, there would be times where they were like "can't do this week/ next few days" etc

They would also be in the downstairs lounge and had lots of things up near the brick wall where water would come through and paint was damaged.

Making it awkward to be down there looking around.

This thread seems to have galloped away on unproved assumptions.

Like Bung says, that red LED is probably because there is no connection to a provider.

At the very least, go down this route before getting involved with agents and lawyers!

They've signed up with a provider, and modem etc was sent- and resulted in no connection.
After liaising with the ISP provider and detailing the diagnosis around the ONT, they advised Chorus tech attending, and observations has been posted in my first post..

EDIT: but yes good comments - will see what they say and update the post here.. going the lawyer path will definitely be $$$

Hi, the ONT GPON light is active irrelevant of a RSP active on the connection or not, its an indication of downstream traffic which will be there regardless of the services carried.

Clearly there is a lack of suitably modulated light on the fibre port, my guess is broken fibre.
