I've used two part builds bog quite a bit on gib and not had issues with shrinkage, softness, etc. I just put a bit of the white part on a tray, put a small line of the red part on, and get what I need done ASAP as it dries really quickly like 5 minutes to sanding. Most of the other ones take hours before you can sand them. The price of any of this stuff is trivial compared with the labor.

Two-part bog is an excellent product and is perfect for certain jobs - but TBH I have to say that it's not the best or correct filler for fixing dents and small holes in Gib, as per the OP. One-pot acrylic filler is correct IMO.

One reason against the two-pot is the fact that when it's cured, it's fairly hard - so when you sand it, it's a lot harder than the surrounding Gib substrate that it's on. You end up roughing up the Gib trying to sand the epoxy. On the other hand, when you sand the acrylic filler, it's softer and sands off easily before you start disturbing the Gib surface. Apart from all this, the acrylic is just easier to use.

I'm sure some people will disagree with this but just my experience after 50 years of DIY.

You're right that it's so hard than when sanding it does affect the gib around it. It's a good product for many uses, and if you're in a hurry it's great. Fully drying some of the one part fillers can take hours, this stuff is quick. If time is not a problem the other fillers maybe better, but it might be fill, wait four hours, sand, fill again, wait 4 hours, sand, prime, etc. Some take absolutely ages to dry.

Yep - acrylic works best in a fairly thin layer(s) because drying can be an issue when it's thicker. Drying depends on temp and humidity etc too. However OP is asking about small holes and dents in Gib so, on balance, I'd go one-pot here.

Just a note of caution re the Sellys premixed stuff (and other brands).  Some of them dry quite hard.  The issue arises if you are filling an area that has existing gib stop in it (like a join).  When sanding it back you can find that you are sanding the existing softer gib stop more easily than the harder premix, and you end up with a lump.  You keep sanding the lump to get it down, it keeps sanding the underlying gib stop faster and the problem never goes away.

Personally I just mix up some dry gib stop in a yogurt pottle or icecream tub.  Takes seconds to do, then just biff the stuff you dont use.  The dry powder lasts forever.

Did you use Selleys products to fix your m-i-l’s letterbox? Despite asking you, we never did hear what eventuated there? 😀
