Ok, I've finally got a big DIY project underway I've wanted to do for years. I'm a DIY nut, I'll happily admit. I have a hell of a lot of tools in my man cave and they've never been very well organised.

I've started going to the local MenzShed. They have some awesome machinery there, including a saw bench that can cut quite large pieces. I'm building some very sturdy drawers out of 10 mm hardboard and plywood.

Here's the first drawer I built, installed under my work bench. The inside space between the two sides is 600 mm and each drawer is 575 mm wide and 530 mm deep. Each drawer is a custom height to allow for the highest item that will go in the drawer. This allows for the maximum number of drawers I'll be able to install in the approx vertical metre of space under the bench:

I made a mistake with my measurements and will have to make another front for this drawer.

Here's the drawer pulled out (I got double 500 mm drawer runners so each drawer can be pulled out to almost its complete depth). This first drawer contains screwdrivers and screwdriver bits. There was a little space left over on the right so I installed a divider and made a space for my small collection of networking tools. Space permitting, I plan to have up to two logical categories of tools in a drawer:

I might install a divider to separate the little stubby screwdrivers from bigger ones. We'll see... 

Here's drawer number two. This one contains all my drill bits (except for masonry bits), drill extensions and hole saws:

The clear plastic box at the back contains all my loose drill bits organised by diameter.

I installed dividers to separate different things. I installed a strap that sits under these tools to make it easy to remove them from the narrow space they occupy. This drawer with all the tools contained in it weighs around 20 kgs. The drawer runners I've bought have a 45 kg weight rating:

The next drawer down will be for spanners, vice grips, shifting spanners.
