I am extending our hallway using some laundry space, and there is a chunk of chipboard in part of it so I have to buy some timber floorboards to continue the wooden floor from the existing hallway.

I don't know what the timber is, but guess it's Matai or Rimu.  We have recently taken a wall out, and the timber from that has very red sawdust.

The guy @ City Timber took about 3 seconds to tell me it was Matai (had the samples with me) and he has brand new stuff in stock.

The framing may well have been Rimu. Now Ill be trying my hand at making some chopping boards / pot stands out of the recycled timber.
