One of my friends who tried to sign up for Netflix said it didn't offer a 30 day free trial anymore. I didn't believe it so I went to try see for it myself and found there is no 30 day free trial anymore. Noticed the U.S still offer a 30 day free trial though.

correct
The free trial looks to have been removed from Netflix in many locations around the world.

Further to this, if they recognise that your device has previously had a Netflix subscription used on it, they will try they're hardest to avoid giving you a free 30 day trial.

Well if you really want a 30 day trial you can do it for US$1. This is theory only but it should work.

1. Sign up for a trial of a proxy service

2. Get a DID in the US using https://www.callcentric.com/did/   $1/month

3. setup your local US phone in case Netflix calls you with a SIP client

4. Go to Netflix.com with your proxy on and you should see the 30 day trial offer

5. Sign up. They should take NZ credit cards (my Netflix account, admittedly created years ago, is billed to a NZ CC)

Then you should have 30 days and be able to switch between US and NZ content with the proxy on or off.

Theoretical only and YMMV

Perhaps your friend could go through the $12.00 trial instead? $12.00!

Maybe they had a lot of people signing up to the free trial due to the lockdown

so stopped it since most would cancel the service after the lock down ended.

Use what you are saving on takeaway coffees to pay the $12 :)

You spend more on your Friday night fish'n'chips than the trivial value of the free month being agonized over. Seriously, is this an issue at all?

I think my US$1 cost is a better deal :-)

Good on Netflix, have no issues with them removing a free trial. Netflix gives you so much quality content for a great price.

There surely can't be too many more households / people that don't already know what the service is all about?

There was a member on here a while ago who would sign up for free trial using multiple email accounts just to avoid paying the subscription charges, maybe this was happening on a wider scale so they stopped it completely?

You'd be correct there wouldn't be many who didn't know what Netflix was all about. I suppose you could make the argument that the trail is about discovering if you actually like any of the content - but then again $12 ain't that much to pay to give it a go.

Suspect you might have a point about people signing up for multiple free trials, someone I know loves to brag about how they have several email addresses and 'burner' credit cards to do exactly this for every service who offers one.

Neflix is doing well without having to offer 30 day trials now.

I suspect they still offer 30 day trials in the US because there is so much more competition.
