Wonder what the price would be in Vanuatu. If you are actually in that country on holiday make a new gmail address from there and use that to sign up and pay an annual fee by Wise would that work or, using ships wifi which is likely Starlink to sign up. How do crew members who are at sea all year manage.

via Turkey since Jan 2023 - not evicted yet so will see how I go next month.

It's telling me the price is $30 per month for family premium. Which is still too much for me. Seems like a steep price for no ads and the ability to download. I'm not interested in the music.

Well until I get evicted - likely soon is 115.99 TRY a month for YouTube Premium Family.

I just received an email from YouTube. Was dreading opening it but when I did instead of being evicted they were emailing to tell me my subscription price was being increased. A rise to 379 Philippine Pesos for a family plan which is ~$10 NZD up from ~$7 NZD I was paying. Hopefully that means I live on in Manila for a little while longer.

Rumours have been around for a few days, since my reply here about being careful about your account.

Now there's confirmation: YouTube confirms crackdown on VPN users accessing cheaper Premium plans  | TechCrunch

YouTube just expelled me from Pakistan. I'll miss the weather 😅

So my billing month just expired and I got ads starting to play. Very hard to watch so I resigned myself to re-subscribe, but they are asking $23.99 a month for a single user (not family)!!!

It doesn’t normally cost that much does it? I thought it was around $18 or so.

Still $17.99 here for a single user account, it's always been a NZ one.

Just checked the app, and $17.99 individual, $29.99 family, $10.49 student for NZ.

No idea where $23.99 comes from - unless they're now charging penal rates ???  ("joke").  Are you being charged NZD or some other currency/location?

I’m on the grandfather one. I changed my user name so if leave something in comments my real name doesn’t show.

Looks like that was a mistake thing to do as a month later (could be coincidence ) get an email saying they will put my price up from around $13 to $17.99 a month but as a long standing and valued customer they will give me at least 3 months before they do it, so will be until October earliest and will get another email a month before happens.

I joined Premium from almost day one, and have been a continuous subscriber ever since. I didn’t quit subscription as realise once quit cannot get price back.

Looks like once they do it will have nothing to lose. I don’t listen to much music these days so nothing to lose there. I watch a lot of live content so not sure if that’ll have ads in it.

And yes when I first joined tried on Apple Device and it was adding an extra $4 to monthly price. Even if using Safari so think had to do it in end on a PC.

The VPN thing looks like a big hassle to try and get to work, so I’ll try it with ads, and if to many will just reduce what watch on it, or halve the price by subscribing every second month, believe there is a pause option rather then cancel subscription to make it easier.

Yes you were right - it dropped to $17.99 when I checked on my laptop. Cheers.

Yep, we got our warning mid last month, so have about 10 days left (at least they didn't cancel it immediately, but at the end of the billing month).

Kids are not happy, with one offering up a decent chunk of his pocket money towards an NZ-based sub! The problem is we still don't want to shift from Spotify to YT Music, and given there's still no option for a music-less (and therefore cheaper) YT Premium we're stuck - I'm not convinced that no ads and downloadable content is worth $30 a month.

Any ways that are worth trying to continue the previous arrangements?!

Like many here I had signed up through Turkey.

Has anyone had any luck trying the same or another country? Or, once they're onto you, is that it?

But seriously interested in advice on whether there are any other ways!
