For the guys on Slingshot, does the Amazon Fire TV work without having to set up a separate VPN because of Slingshot's Global Mode?

Have been streaming Hulu today (did not get the Hulu streaming problem that I see was going around earlier today).

BUT

I seem to get worse quality and a lot more streams stopping on the Fire TV then on the Apple TV (2nd Gen). Was watching The Daily Show and it just plain stopped on the Fire TV (after earlier going to a lower bitstream), switching to the AppleTV just seconds later I got a full quality stream and did not have any streaming issues at all.

Anyone else seen anything similar?

Yeah its way worse quality than my smart tvs native app. Seems to have plenty of dropped frames in the movies from amazon prime too.

I think quality is variable. I watch House on Netflix and it starts low quality but then goes HD after five seconds and is solid. We also watch HD movies from Amazon Instant Video with no stops.

Could this be the ISP's transparent proxy impacting the Fire in the same way it affects the Roku, chromecast etc?

I doubt it - I am on Vodafone cable and if a transparent proxy would affect Amazon FireTV it would be this one. It works better with unblock-us than the browser on the HTPC. But perhaps other ISPs have some filtering/traffic management in pklace? Who'd know?

And FyreTV (NSFW) is suing Amazon FireTV for trademark infringement...

It starts off looking blurry as. Even the hd indicator is not on when paused. Sometime after starting the picture sharpens up and hd lights up but I'm guessing it's picking the lower bitrate hd stream and never going to the top one.

Just ordered one (through the link) mainly as a Plex client. Has anyone tried side loading the TVNZ Ondemand and 3Now apps?

Anyone noticed in the last couple of days Netflix not showing the UI, instead a XML file with the words "Error forwarding request to origin" when using unblock-us? It works fine on a desktop browser.

I will try a restart now.

I cancelled my netflix long ago as it wouldnt work on my smart tv and the desktop playing to the TV over HDMI looked aweful. Might go for another trial of it later tonight. Am using unotelly free trial at the moment on the fire tv.

Yep, restarting the box did it. All working again. Cancel the red alert!
