I am using http://stremr.tv and have just encountered this on my Chromecast

"Whoop's something went wrong: Streaming Error"

You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy. Please turn off any of these services and try again. For more help visit netflix.com/proxy

Is anyone else having issues yet?

And have you blocked or redirected Google and OpenDNS on your router?

Just heard on the radio that Netflix has started the crack down already with their Australian customers..

Having google dns blocked has been enough up until now.

I just fired up my Chromecast and couldn't view any Netflix content. Once I blocked all the IP addresses noted in Freitasm's link, it worked fine.

Makes no difference. It seems the exit IP's of unblockers are getting blocked, as Getflix is having customers complain of the same issue, which can be resolved by switching to a different exit (like unotelly are running different US servers you can pick etc)

The thing is those DNS block/reroute is good for DNS unblockers, not for VPNs.

I know this has been said in this thread 1000 times before, but this really annoys me. I don't use an unblocker to rip anyone off, I use it because there is so much more content on the US Netflix that just simply isn't available here by any other legal means.

All the comments saying this will simply send people back to illegal torrents are 100% correct.

Some customers will keep Netflix and will be stuck with the inferior local catalogs, some customers will cancel the subscription. The end result is the customers lose, Netflix loses, and (depending on how the licensing fees work) the content owners either gain nothing or lose themselves.

If they really want to hold on to their outdated licensing models, they could do it in a win-win way with only small changes to the licencing model:

E.g. Currently I pay $12.99 to Netflix and I guess about $7 to a geounblocker. Netflix could instead give me the option of paying an additional $7 for access to the US catalog (so I pay Netflix $20 total), give $5 of that to the content owners, and keep $2 for themselves. Customer wins, Netflix wins, content owners win. The only losers are the geounblocker companies, but they would lose in a proper global licensing model anyway.

Can't disagree. What if the rights are sold to PaulTV in NZ? Netflix wont air it as its not their content. Its PaulTV's content for the duration of their contract. Its available in the US and also in NZ, its global. Would you then use a geoblocker or pay PaulTV to view?

My ideal would be smaller catalogue providers that you select from to match your needs. I'm not that interested in much of the Netflix US catalogue (although it's obviously better than the NZ one). It seems to be youth orientated (superheroes and vampires) whereas I prefer UK content and docos. I'm thinking of signing up to Acorn TV which is $4.99 (Getflix appear to un-geoblock it). I might still keep Netflix, or perhaps swap it about with Lightbox. My big gripe is that the other NZ options (free-to-air and Sky) are so awful that I have to go offshore to find anything decent.

I admit, that complicates things somewhat. If I'm honest I would use the geounblocker, for the simple reason that I already have it for the content that isn't licensed to anyone in NZ.
