Just thought I'd report in, tried using chrome (with media hint turned off) and Firefox with overplay VPN connected to USA and it worked fine.
Using Chrome and media hint got me the n8210 error.

In terms of the reports that one of Playmo's DNS is OK... that DNS server is based in London and uses Google's DNS as an upstream. This is similar to our Ireland and London DNS servers... can anyone that's affected try to access US Netflix using only our London or Ireland DNS servers?

I tried switching to the getflix London DNS server - still got the error message (this is after flushing my dns cache) - so while I wait I'm spending my time on the Mexican Netflix one - theres some different titles in there that aren't even on the US one (Defiance Sci/Fi series is one...)

It is annoying tho - if it does end up being ISP specific looks like i'll be switching to orcon as well!

I blame Snap/Orcon/Bigpipe - clearly they've narced and all Telecom and VF customers will now have to shift to them

- seriously though, I'm on Snap 100/50 UFB and have had no issues with Netflix US, Hulu or any other streaming service - long may that last.

Just to add to this as well - I also use ultrasurf as well - if I enable that I can access Netflix USA and watch movies no problems... (No good for anything off the PC tho!)

Where abouts are the Netflix Open Connect servers that you would expect NZ customers to be pulling the data from located? do you have an IP Address that users can post traceroutes too?

Our testing shows that most connections to US Netflix CDN servers from NZ tend to hit servers located in LA, at least with our DNS (e.g. they reverse DNS lookup to something.lax.something.com) - an example of this is 108.175.47.152 - see info about this IP here: http://db-ip.com/108.175.47.152 - these CDN IPs all part of ASN 2906 (http://bgp.he.net/AS2906#_asinfo) which is how we suspect ISPs/upstreams/peers are detecting the traffic, or there could be a routing issue in/out of NZ for this network.

In any case, some working and non-working traceroutes to this IP could be helpful, good idea!

Also I have a friend on Flip/Unotelly and they are not having any issues either

firstly..everything is working great for me (BigPipe ADSL, public IP not going through CG-NAT, no proxy, UnoTelly). Netflix working great on weekend along with BBC iPlayer etc.
Could this perhaps not be a change to Netflix to do a secondary look-up using Google DNS servers of 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 and OpenDNS and then to traffic shape traffic where there is a mismatch?
Rather than blocking traffic to the Google and OpenDNS servers, I'm using the equivalent of pre-routing (using Vyatta 6.6R1) to modify the DNS packets to push DNS traffic transparently to UnoTelly NZ servers. I needed to do this to get rock solid Chromecast casting working to Netflix.

Are people struggling on a CG-NAT address set, or do they have public IPv4 addresses?
I'm just interested here as something has clearly changed for so many people to suddenly be having issues.

This thread is quite bare of respondents from Telecom or Vodafone. They are usually pretty good at helping out/commenting on connection issues. I smell conspiracy.

So yes, it could still be something ISP-related (as in upstream in use, not necessarily ISP-initiated) seeing that Netflix US is different from the rest of the other regions.

I guess what I am not understanding from the above 3 quotes, is why Australia is not having problems if it is something happening 'upstream' from our ISP's, given one would assume Australia's NF traffic is flowing across the same path (incl the SX cable) as ours.

I was thinking exactly the same thing - perhaps can understand VF not commenting given previous posts that say they won't help re NF issues due to their deal with Sky, but this does not apply with Telecom.

given they both have contracts with content providers (VF with Sky, and Telecom with whatever they are launching) they probably aren't allowed to discuss this sort of thing.

But since the issue is not only with Telecom and VF, it's also affecting at least Slingshot and Snap too (judging by responses in this thread), I don't think we can point to them as sources of the problem.

I have a public IPv4 address (Vodafone cable) and have used the same address for the last ten years or so.
