I hope that Sky don't win the rights back next year as I'm pretty glad to not have to maintain a Sky subscription now. If Sky do offer an online-only service similar to PLP it'd likely be through http://fanpass.co.nz/ which seems pretty expensive and also uses NeuLion.
Personally I've had a great experience of PLP this season — maybe I've just been lucky — whereas I've had a bunch of trouble with SkyGo previously.

Looking at it, those pass prices for weekly and daily are the same as PLP, and the F1 looks like it would work out a similar price too... I'd imagine the Sky wouldn't charge that much more if at all as they would have seen the benefit from offering an online system; well I hope they would otherwise they're just dumb.

PLP is 20 / month. Fanpass is 20 / week. Similar?

Also, cost of EPL rights have quadrupled in all markets that have signed off for 2016/17 and beyond. Expect a massive price hike whichever way it goes...

The weekpass at PLP is also $20, so yes they are the same... The $20 for the month is actually a full years sub at $240 per year but in monthly amounts.

Benoire: I really hope Sky win this back again and offer EPL in two ways; online only similar to PLP at perhaps the same price or via the subscription with select games on the TV itself and the rest via the new on-demand system they've implemented on the boxes... Win win as far as I would be concerned!

One website is saying BeIn has the rights to NZ EPL for 2016-19.  Anybody else heard this??

33coupe: I've just checked the arsenal game on my phone, and it got a bit shaky at the 42 minutes mark like martyyn said, so it must be a problem their end.

Well thank $deity for that !

I've sent PLP support an email to see if they come back with anything, but seeing it hasn't improved I wont be paying for the rest of the season. I spent the second half of last year seeing the same sort of problems on pretty much every game and I just can't be bothered with it. I'll get my fix elsewhere.

Why did this have to be so hard ?

As for the upcoming rights, I don't care who wins them as long as I can stream them. I will not go back to paying $100 a month to Sky just to watch the football no matter how good the quality.

Quality has been great this season, and last. I've not had a single issue streaming from PLP.

I suspect the 10 mil BeIn paid is actually 5 times what the last round cost according to articles at the time. That will surely mean a massive price hike for next season?

If BeIn does have the rights (no media release on their website) and hedged at NZD:USD 0.66 across the 3 years it'd be about NZD5m per season.  I cant seem to put my finger on what the previous round went for in NZ.

And BeIn has done a deal for selected games from the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Football League and the Capital One Cup exclusively LIVE on Sky.  So dont know whether it means BeIN will stream for NZ next year on establish its own "ESPN" style sport channel or what.  Alternatively could also onsell the rights to PLP/LightboxSports.....

I tried to watch the Man United game at 7.30am Sunday and could only get 400 mbps!! Needless to say, it was unwatchable. I really want Sky to get it again.

I won't be surprised to find out that PLP have lost the rights and dropped their bundle accordingly. Be prepared for even worse (if possible) quality than ever.

I won't be surprised if that is right and they have got the rights, as they seems they sell them all at the same time. Surprised that it looks like it has gone for lower than last time. Surprised we haven't heard anything about it before now.

I wonder if they wanted both NZ and Australian rights so they could do something with their thru channel in NZ like they do in Australia?

If plp struggle, I wonder if lightbox makes a move, rather than assuming Sky gets it back. Ie like UK telecoms companies making a move on sports in UK.

Heard of Lightbox Sport? It is PLP.

Oh FFS.

Against my better judgement I decided to sign up with PLP for the rest of the season thinking last weeks stuttering was surely a one-off, but no, 38:57 into the Arsenal - Sunderland game it does it again.

On the HTPC in both Chrome and IE, on the app on my N5 and my Chromebook.

Utter shambles.
