Yep Spotify premium is definitely only $10 in the States

$20 us per month could easily be $30 NZ per month with the NZ dollar dropping. That is a lot to pay for music you never own a physical copy of (either CD or mp3) . I find normal Pandora free pretty good, but these things will only get free for a limited time I think.

I'm not paying at all, I am considering my options right now. I'd be a lot more inclined if I could find a 25% off coupon for it for my first year but I'm probably unlikely to do that.

Well what a PITA this all is. Called the CC Company, filled out all the forms and they have credited my account, but in tidal you can't remove your CC details, they don't respond via Twitter DM, Facebook posts are removed, and Facebook Messages are ignored. Tickets aren't responded too. It's hard not to get a little hatey with them, though being a relatively new business these sort of things can happen.

Frustrating when I can see them responding other, positive comments on FB but ignoring mine.

I have stopped recommending this product and moved my recommendation status to "avoid" for the time being.

Does that really matter, though? I haven't purchased a CD in years. Even before Spotify came along I would usually listen to radio or Sound Cloud.

I own hundreds of old cds and dvds and they sit in boxes in the garage collecting dust. The $150 pear year I pay for Spotify gives me more music than I could ever 'own' in its physical format.

Getting back on topic, I have no interest in Tidal because Spotify meets my needs. My only gripe is no simultaneous streaming on multiple devices.

If these artists pull their music from services like Spotify or itunes they deserve to have it pirated. hopefully their labels are smarter than they are.... Problem is a number now have their own :S

You can't dictate where an artist plays his or her music, nor where they choose to tour and you certainly can't, nor should you even try to suggest this is a reason for stealing their music.

I, like you, disagree with them pulling it from the likes of Spotify (Selfishly because that means I can listen for free), however Tidal is JayZ's music platform, it makes sense he would do whatever he can to promote it. It's HIS music, not YOUR music and therefore he has final say.

Spotify is seen by many to give artists music away for less than traditional music distribution methods, and at the end of the day if you don't like an artists behaviour, vote by listening to someone else.

so it seems the music industry might be taking some leads from the video industry and setting up exclusive content deals to attract customers to their platform

Whether it pays off or not remains to be seen.
Or maybe, as the article suggests, they simply want to use this threat as leverage to get better deals than the pitiful amounts the streaming services currently pay.
Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens.
