ISP's may be deregulated but if your partner has existing licensing agreements in place with content providers, agreements which allowing access to Netflix directly contravenes, what are you supposed to do? 

Having said that, this is now a very public problem so I'm confident they'll make the change, even if it's a stealth fix. It was an update to their proxy, nothing more, nothing less. 



The way I see it, it's not so much a Netflix issue but a "transparent" cache issue that is having an impact on Netflix. If your cache is caching (Pragma: no-cache & Cache-Control: no-store) requests, without revalidating it is broken and needs to be fixed. I don't see how they could justify not fixing it. The fact that this would have the effect of allowing users to use this service which is outside the terms of their agreement (with netflix) is a separate issue and should have no bearing on it being fixed or not fixed.

note - I don't use Netflix and am with Snap so wouldn't have any issues if I did.

dclegg: Don't want to jinx it, but I've just tried to queue up NetFlix content 5 times (4 separate shows/movies), and each time it has succeeded for me (using Chrome on OSX). For two of the tests it seemed to pause a little at the 50% mark when buffering, which is where it used to fail before, but then it continued to 100% and started streaming the content.

Not sure if this is the result of Telecom fixing something, 5x blind luck and the problem still exists, or aliens.


Guys, me too, telecom customer and with UnoTelly now all seems good again, lets hope it holds out.

Vodafone Unlimited ADSl customer here using Unblock-Us, Netflix hasn't been working on Mac, Xboxone or Apple TV since Thursday. Had short run yesterday afternoon where US Netflix worked but was terrible quality. VF contract expires next month will be shifting providers if they choose not to sort this issue out.

On Vodafone unlimited naked and with Unotelly working fine since late last night :-) So will switch to unotelly and stay with Vodafone for now.


Like Mauricio, Netflix still not working for us (reliably) on Vodafone VDSL. About 10% of attempts to stream do succeed.

One thing is for sure: I don't think people should get too excited over whether VF responds officially to this issue or not. Plausible deniability can be helpful with these things -- if they choose to just quietly fix it and everything works from now on, it might even be better for all concerned.

Edited to take into account comments/feedback by others in the household.

 




I'm hoping that is what happens, they just ninja it. After all, there is an issue with the transparent cache(s), any self respecting IT person will want it fixed.

Guys, I'm a Telecom customer, on VDSL, and it appears to have come right, and I haven't changed anything, except experimenting with different countries.

 

 

 

Once I switched back to US/Canada, it's 100% working.

This actually puts me in an interesting bind, if it is fixed. We've been using the UnoTelly VPN in the interim, and have found that the actual streaming experience is superior to DNS. I suspect this is due to the NetFlix app on the Apple TV being pretty crap at buffering content to play, whereas AirPlay seems to buffer content before playing it. As a result, we are getting consistently good picture quality for the duration of the show.

The downside to this (and it is a pretty big one), is that the AirPlay implementation is also less than stellar. When it works, it works well. But in our experience, we can stream one NetFlix show this way, but then AirPlay fails to start on the Apple TV. This requires either a router reboot (Airport Extreme 5th Gen), Apple TV reboot, or both to resolve the issue.

So in summary, DNS is far easier to get going, but often stalls during play back or scales back quality. VPN with AirPlay is a bugger to get going, but once it does the streaming experience is far superior.

Perhaps it's time to revisit the PS3 app or investigate the PS4 one (although in most regards PS4 < PS3 for media services, so I'm not expecting miracles there).

On a side note to this, I am having issues with the Auckland based Unotelly Server so if people are still having issues, try the AUS based ones and see if it works for you

what I have noticed so far:
Cant load facebook images
cant connect to www.idownloadblog.com 
Images in Netflix stopped loading
When using Unotelly Auckland DNS/BigPipe

Perhaps its worth GZ/VF citizens asking whether VF will fix this configuration fault (which is just what it is).

Vodafone VDSL - this is also my experience.

I would suggest to people to resist (at this stage) the urge to get excessively pushy on this issue with VF, especially on their Facebook or Community Forums. As others have pointed out, the reality is that this issue really extends beyond Netflix and SHOULD be fixed. However, the more it becomes plausibly linked as some kind of "This is just the Netflixers complaining" issue (in the heads of certain people) and potentially gets to the antennae of the risk management and other types who wish to get in the way of you Netflixing, the more likely that this takes longer to fix, if at all.
