I recently installed an IPv6 tunnel (Hurricane Electric) over my vdsl connection and use their provided ::/48 on my LAN. I hadn't really thought about it beforehand, but my ATV3 is now using IPv6 to connect to Netflix and being seen by them as US based.

I assume the ATV3 is preferring IPv6 to IPv4 when it is given the choice. Unfortunately there is no way that I have found to turn off IPv6 or change the preferred order

So now I have access to the US content, but the experience is pretty dodgy. Pinging netflix over the tunnel shows about 25% packet loss (depending on time of day) and I get 'An unexpected error has occurred ...." messages quite frequently while watching shows.

Maybe Netflix will get around to blocking this one day (i.e. have Hurricane Electric associate geolocation with their endpoints) but for now it is a free alternative to other unblocking services.

I wouldn't recommend it as a solution though. Apart from the packet loss issue, there is lots of geek work to get the tunnel installed and then set up the LAN routing, but it was a by-product of some other things I'm working on.

Well seeing as Unotelly didn't work for me (and by all accounts its having its own proxy error message issues) Ill give Getflix a couple more weeks to see if they can come up with a solution, if not then ill look at perhaps cancelling Getflix.....not sure ill keep Netflix either as NZ content on its own is rubbish....decisions....!

Well - I'm finally getting the message pretty consistently with unblock us. Looks like I will go down the VPN route which I've already tested and it works. As I don't use smart tv's or consoles I don't need to worry about setting it up on the router so I can leave my gaming PC's out of the VPN. It has the side affect of making piracy alot safer now which given the crap I'm having to go through to legally view content I feel more and more ethically OK to do for movies and shows netflix don't show.

I canceled big red and my unblocker service, (still 2 months to go on the unblocker one but oh well least got to use most of it)

Can still browse on devices what's on Netflix, so if they add more NZ content can rejoin. More stuff on Zone channel and TVNZ, just have to use the fast forward button and be up to date with what's on. Even with unblocking I had no plans to cancel sky in short term.

UnoTelly is no longer a go (Netflix) on our PS3, an alternate is working well now.

I understand a lot of people will give up after the current dog and pony show wears them down.

I'll never help someone source material from outside of NZ, the hassles of tech-supporting it are many and varied.

If I'm honest with myself... it wasn't for a new season of Archer and GOT on the way, I wouldn't have bothered looking for an alternate option few months...

There is absolutely no way I will support any of the new zealand content distributors as their model relies on ripping NZ consumers off. I will pirate before I give a dime to them. And I'm sure many many people will resort to piracy instead of paying the NZ media cartels.

Before there were options people used to say "If there's a paid option I won't pirate". There are options but not there are other excuses. Nothing changes.

IMHO the best option if you're got networking skills is to get a Mikrotik RouterOS VPS in the US - there are limitless possibilities once you have this.

The PS3 works, the XBox One does not, even using a new service (or two).
That seems to be a consistent theme where the XBox One Netflix app is problematic... to say the least.

Well technically there were always options, it just came down to what was reasonable. Before it was a case of do I buy the DVD from overseas that isn't offered in NZ or do I just pirate it. Now there is an affordable and practical option and that is called Netflix US - and the NZ companies are effectively paying (by taking companies to court over global mode, and the share act of buying exclusive rights for a geographic region) to stop us from accessing it. Luckily I have netflix running again so have no need to resort to piracy. I would have to use every single streaming service in NZ to even come close to the amount of content that netflix US offers. So if I lost access to netflix US - I would consider that the effort and money to go through to get the content that people in the US get without piracy is unreasonable enough to justify piracy again. Sky, Spark etc are paying money to add an obstruction to what can be legally be sourced for a fraction of the price overseas - and I refuse to support it what so ever. From an economic stand point, a service is meant to add value, but Spark and Sky work the opposite by putting an obstruction in front of alternatives to reduce its value so you buy their overpriced and under-sourced alternative. If they didn't pay for exclusive rights, instead just paid for rights (without the exclusivity) I would be more inclined to support the NZ company.

Here is a hypothetical question - if you were using Netflix US before and had access to a show you like eg, CSI NY - and the next day find you do not have access due to their proxy limitations, why is it wrong to pirate it given you are still paying netflix the money you did yesterday for the content they still offer US consumers.

I'm on dns4me and i haven't missed a beat on netflix over the last few months, except last week when they suffered a DDOS attack for a day or 2.

Could be worth a free trial if the other providers are failing.
