toprob: I was a bit surprised that a gold sub is required, I did think that this would be more of an extension to the Media Center rather than a part of the games-centric Live Gold. I've had a gold sub for a lot of years, and only gave it up when the kids left home and stopped playing games. I didn't mind paying for the use of MS's servers, but not for services which don't use their servers.

I've been hanging out for Quickflix on the Xbox, but not this way.

icogill: Microsoft have allowed BBC iPlayer and Aus ABC iVEW to be available on Xbox without xbox live gold. These are however large public broadcasters which I suspect would have been able to get Microsoft to allow this... The smaller/commercial players probably not so much...

It's probably the "commercial" bit that clinches it. Using my Netflix and Hulu accounts on my Xbox also requires a Gold subscription to be active to use.

TVNZ just announced a new app coming out for iOS and Android which will allow full streaming via the On Demand stuff:

They have been promising that for years. I'll believe it when I see it on my ipad, actually working.

Plus TVNZ's OnDemand is really just catchup, whichmeans only the last episode or two of a series. I don't want that. I want the whole series available to watch.

yeah so I will retire my xbox360. Will keep the PS3 I bought. Just use the xbox for dvd and movies. Not going to pay $80 a year just to access quickflix on it. I really prefer the user interface on the xbox360 but guess I will adjust to the PS3 one

i completely understand that if people dont already have a gold membership for xbox (which i think youre mad if you dont, why buy a gaming console not to game on it???)

but a gold membership can be bought for less than $60 a year

I tried Quickflix on Xbox in the weekend. The interface is much better than on the Sony Bravia, but the picture quality is worse. The iPad interface is still the best so I decide what to watch on that and then search manually on the Bravia.

p.s. The Code is an awful movie...

well maybe I wont try the code. After a bit of thought , i thought why not and went to upgrade to gold so I could get the quickflix app. Because I dont have the original pc they send a code to cellphone number for security reasons. I dont have that number so chose that option. No option to send to either emails and it insists on sending code to the cellphone I no longer have. I try changing that number but because not original computer that i set up the account I have to wait 30 days before the number will change to my current one. Just wish they would give option to send to email address

yes.

their pay per view is pretty good,

their subscription service is, as you would expect from a Netflix like service, mostly older movies, but definitely some good stuff in there
just this last week they added Total Recall (the arnie version) Underworld, HellBoy and some other good stuff.

The QuickFlix website says support for 2010 and 2011 model Samsung Smart TVs will be coming in November. We're over half way through November with still no sign of the app on a 2011 Samsung I have.
Does anyone have any further insider info on this?

Further to that, the "Android" app already seems to be available on select Samsung Tablets and Phones. Why is it taking so long to get a general release to all other Android devices?
Perhaps, as hinted in an above post, there is a bit of favouritism going on towards Samsung devices?

Chief executive Chris Taylor and deputy chairman Justin Milne both resigned late yesterday amid talk of reports of infighting over direction.

Chairman and founder Stephen Langsford has taken day-to-day control.

The company's ASX-listed shares, which have lost 75% of their value in the past year, were put in a trading halt.

A key problem has been that although HBO is a QuickFlix investor, the US network's line-up of hit TV series cannot be offered to QuickFlix users on this side of the Tasman, where Sky TV has content rights locked up.

ouch! that doesn't look good.

A damn shame if it does all go under. This country really needs somebody like this to light a fire under Sky and bring them into the digital age.
the recent ads for iSky just demonstrate how out of touch Sky really is. "Cheat on your TV" is a ridiculous campaign. I want to use iSky ON my TV, not instead of
