Does anyone else have problems getting 5.1 out of their Fire TV?

I have an optical output from the Fire TV to my 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS capable Sony receiver. If I change the setting on the Fire TV to output 5.1 via optical I get the 5.1 light up on my receiver but no sound.

It's as if it's sending 7.1 even though I haven't selected the Dolby Digital Plus setting.

Cheers
Matt.

Ok thanks - makes sense.

I was hoping someone else had 5.1 output on their Fire TV working!

Cheers

That was my fault actually, i replied and then realised you had an optical connection not HDMI. I had a similar problem over HDMI with DD+ etc, but the steps i took won't help with your issue. So i deleted the comment but since you've brought it up:

For reference I had it set to Dolby digital+ over hdmi, it wouldn't work at all for netflix, i would get clicks in the menus etc but as soon as i fired up netflix i wouldn't get any sound until i went into the movie then audio and set it to stereo. I fixed this by going to dolby digital+ automatic (top option), then it magically worked.
However i got DD/DTS without doing this in xbmc, so check that and see if its a device issue or a settings problem.

robfish:
robfish: I tried manually entering the correct DNS adresses but I still yet the same result.

I have made some progress. I signed up for the free trial of UnoTelly and entered their DNS addresses on the Fire TV box and NetFlix now works.

Now to convince Orcon that their Global mode is not quite right.

I now have a Nexus Player which works fine with "Orcon's Global Mode" without needing the UnoTelly DNS addresses so the problem does seem specific to the FireTV.
