Yup so that's why you experience the issues as you mentioned.

corksta: Mattmannz and cdrnet: who's your ISP and what DNS unblocking service are you using? I have the same issue, but I also had it on a Roku 3. I'm with Vodafone on UFB and the images and thumbnails not displaying is related to Vodafone's transparent proxy not playing nicely with DNS unblockers.

I have a Telstra 100Mb account that is now via Vodafone and I use SmatDNS who offered an excellent 2 year deal of just $45.

It's getting to annual broadband revaluation time and was considering Orcon (now that their oversized mascot has gone). Does anyone use Orcon rurally for Netflix etc.? I was just wondering if their technology is any good on slow ADSL2 connections?

BigMal: I gotta say ever since the Netflix app upgrade the Fire TV is now my device of choice over the Roku3.

$79 is great value.

I agree that the new software is a major step in the right direction. That free Pluto TV station is pretty good too :o

Agree, Pluto is fab.

You're probably best to start a new topic seeing as what you're asking has nothing to do with the Fire TV.

Anyone else having issues with Netflix this afternoon? Was fine earlier today but now not working. Have restarted firetv and router, basically just doesn't connect. Tried it on my phone and it opened, tried playing a video and it said it wasnt available in my region (nz)! This has worried me a little! Using slingshot global mode for what its worth.

I have seen people reporting on reddit android devices are forcing the Netflix app to google DNS. Hope this isn't correct....

You might have to null route the Google DNS addresses in your router, or downgrade the Netflix version on your Android devices.

As you will see from my earlier posts, I have NetFlix working fine on my Fire TV using UnoTelly DNS addresses but it will not work with the Orcon Global Mode DNS addresses, even though my computer does.

On the other hand, my Nexus Player, which worked with NetFlix with the "Global" mode has stopped working with a -100 error. It was working fine but stopped a week or so ago and I think it is as you eluded to. I think that Google devices are using Google's DNS addresses. I cannot even make it work by entering my UnoTelly addresses like I can on the Fire TV.

This is not really related to the Fire TV. I have already given the answer: you will have to null route the Google DNS or redirect it to your ISP's via router configuration. This is similar to what happened to the Roku 3 (as per other thread).

I suggest you check the Roku 3 thread as it has the answer. If it doesn't work (due to specific router model), I suggest you create a new topic.

Yes this is correct. We put the Google DNS settings in our router and then manual DNS in the Fire TV and other devices for either Netflix, or local ISP, depending upon the usage. The Global DNS stuff is slightly slower, but it is good enough and it all works. Happy New Year to you guys :)

Ip filtering google dns servers on the slingshot supplied tripleplay150 has successfully resurrected netflix (as expected). Edit: removed ip filtering and setup static route back to the router.

Thanks.
I can now access NetFlix on my Fire TV without using UnoTelly. (Now to try it on the Nexus Player too)

So what are you using to watch Netflix on the Fire TV, since its Geo-blocked?

I use Orcon's "Global mode" with Google's DNS addresses blocked by static routing on my router.
I was using UniTelly DNS addresses.

Ahh I see. So using another unblocking service. I have just switched to only using Unotelly after having had Unblock US as the main service for a long time. Unotelly has a lot of  countries and channels that Unblock US doesn't support, and on top of that its cheaper :)
