Yes I found UnoTelly good too but on my other device (Nexus Player) I did not need it until the latest update for NetFlix (and it will not allow me to use UnoTelly - hopefully the static route will fix that)

Yes it will. I use SmartDNSproxy.com, as it only cost me $40 for 2 years and their support is very good.

My fire tv is no longer playing Netflix or other U.S apps via Unotelly. I switched to astrilll vpn and this sorted the issue immediately.

My Fire TV worked fine with UnoTelly. With the risk of telling grandma how to suck eggs, did you know that if your modem's IP address changes you have to refresh UnoTelly? You can bookmark the URL so it is easy to do.

I am having trouble setting up my Amazon Fire TV Stick (AFTV).

I use Unblock-us for the smartDNS service, which works fine for all computers & Smart TVs on the network.

After changing the AFTV's DNS like any other device, Amazon Prime content works, but Netflix does not. The Netflix app says "pricing information not available" where the Download button should be.
I have also tried using the smartDNS on my router instead of the device itself but that doesn't work either.

I changed my Amazon account's billing address to USA, still no luck. Removed the credit card info & shipping info altogether, still no luck. I changed the Amazon Device country to USA, no luck.

Finally I tried null routing Google DNS in my router as suggested earlier in this thread, but Netflix is still unavailable.

How the heck do I get this thing to work?

I had this on my firetv when i got it about a month ago, 6 hours later i worked out that it was due to old firmware on the device and it had not installed the latest (after saying it was updating firmware when first turning it on) so the netflix app etc would not download.
Once i updated firmware the netflix app installed fine.

Thanks mate, I will try that. I forgot I reset the device and didn't update the firmware this time around.

Just to be clear:

Is null routing google dns necessary?

Which things on Amazon must be set to USA locale? (Billing address? Shipping address? Credit card itself? Device country?)

In my setup for amazon i have 3 address, 2 are NZ, 1 is US (you shop)
I have 1 NZ credit card setup which has a default setting of my youshop address.
If i remember correctly my amazon tv was set to US
I use a DNS server like unblock which is hard coded into the setup of the firetv, my router gets DNS settings from my ISP and i have NOT Null router the google DNS.
Saying this however its been a couple of weeks from the last time I have used my firetv (currently using chromecast and apple tv).

Hi,

I am having some trouble installing XBMC on my firetv stick. All the tutorials talk about a .apk file. When I download the suggested file it is kodi-14.0-Helix-armeabi-v7a.zip

When I extract this zipped file there is no .apk file within it.

Should I just rename the zipped file .apk or have I got the wrong file completely for the firetv?

I'm downloading from here: http://kodi.tv/download/ selecting ARM.

Thanks,

Tim

I downloaded kodi-14.0-Helix-armeabi-v7a.apk from the same site earlier this week. (It was not a zip file.)

That's all there is there now. They must have updated the file.

Do I need to convert the files within the zip to an apk file. I know nothing about android so I am in the dark.

I just clicked on the link and the apk filename is showing on the download (which I am still downloading)

Update: that filename download did complete.

Another note: For some unknown reason, which may be a quirk of my home network, I could not upload the apk via wifi but it worked fine with an ethernet cable. I do not know if you have that option with the Fire stick.

I just tried it again. I get kodi-14.0-Helix-armeabi-v7a.zip (59.4 MB) from mirror.overthewire.com.au

I am pulling my hair out with this. Everywhere I try all I get is a file ending in .zip

Would you mind emailing me the .apk via a PM?
