freitasm: I do not use WiFi for anything that means "streaming".

Strange, i had to got the other way, i was having stutter issues on kodi, (only minimal but enough to annoy) on a wired connection read on another forum that the Ethernet port is only capable of 100mbs transfer rate and could be causing the issues, so i tried wireless (5ghz) now have completely smooth playback with any file type/size

sloburn: Wifi or wired?

Wired. It's the only sensible (reliable) way to stream HD.

Well I have had no trouble streaming with my wireless Fire TV as long as I have had it. (May 2014) It is certainly reliable for me. (Two of my sons also have a total of three Fire TV units streaming flawlessly over wifi at their homes)

(I did have to wire them when I sideloaded Kodi using adb though)

You would be the exception to the rule then. I have GOOD quality expensive wireless with good coverage and streaming was usually good, but not even close to as good as wired has been.

I checked yesterday afternoon and installed the latest firmware update - box seems to be running ok - havent poked around with the new features yet.

One thing I was interested in was VLC for the Fire TV - installed that last week and found it could 'see' my PC on the network - but wasnt able to access any shares on it - I have Kodi installed on the Fire TV and it works great accessing my PC shares - the main reason I got the Fire TV in fact.

I was hoping that maybe you could use VLC in a similar way to Kodi for network playback. VLC is usually an excellent video player. I figured last week maybe VLC needed the (then) impending Fire TV update - but tested VLC again after the firmware upgrade and it still doesnt seem to work.

The feedback comments on Amazon for VLC seem less than positive. Anyone had a play? Any joy?

I also have had no trouble since going wireless, had wired connection to start but couldnt get kodi to play files smoothly (had minor stuttering)

I was able to find and play my files stored on a wd my cloud, but it would not save the location, so would have to troll through folder after folder to get to the location.

Has anyone put Kodi on an Amazon Fire TV and hooked it up to MediaPortal's TV Server?

Have tried but the playback is appalling. I suspect it may be due to the format of the file/hardware acceleration etc.

wo...

I don't have a stereo system anymore (since we moved the TV around in the lounge so all the wall mounted speakers were in the wrong position)...

Anyway, just got a Logitech UE Megaboom for review here. Today I paired it via Bluetooth with my Amazon Fire TV and the sound is amazing. Movies and TV shows come so different now.

Bluetooth stereo on AFTV: another + for this box.

No latency problems with the bluetooth audio vs a direct connection to the TV? I tried BT speakers on the computer once and gave up when it made youtube look like a badly dubbed kungfu movie.

No, not really... Watched an episode of Boch and it was pretty good.

Does anyone know how much shipping from YouShop is approximately for one of these?

I got one a while ago and picked it up from a friend while I was in the US, but I thought I would take advantage of getting $50 off one if you prepay for 3 months of Sling TV which I wanted to try out anyway (plus I wanted to get another Fire TV to gift to my mother).
