I've seen some of these in a local 2 dollar shop or similar, they were about 5NZD each.

To me they seem more convenient because they are not as bulky - I bought 5 pieces at once and use them with different electronic equipment ordered from US.

I do agree that a NZ power supply would be more convenient, but this is the next best.

Prohibited item by the energy safety service. Also a stupidly dangerous adapter in any case.

Can you elaborate why? I have a couple, in fact I am using one to fix the very problem I posted about.

Plugs can go in misaligned livening chassis of anything earthed and they fail any of the finger tests.

There is a reason that legit travel adapters are the size they are to prevent those problems.

Wow! So we are basically not trusted to put a plug in a socket properly, so this needs to be legislated.

I do understand the argument that if a child come across one it can be dangerous, but then it's true for most of electric equipment. If you let your kid to play even with the "proper" adapter, wall socket and, say, a watering can, no legislation can protect you or them.

Well, I'm guessing this is the world we are living in, for better or worse...

For better in this case. That adaptor is intended to be plugged into a power socket, and in even in that normal use it's inherently dangerous - it doesn't need a watering can to make it so.

Got a 2nd gen FTV from the US a while ago and have never bothered setting its time zone properly. Now I come to change it, it only seems to allow zones that are American or American overseas territories / bases, would anyone know how to set to NZ time without (hopefully) me messing up something somewhere else ?

Thanks, have been googling as well, and can use Marshall Islands in winter and American Samoa in summer for the daylight savings thing (or its the other way round). Also there's some timezone app I can sideload, as Am Samoa makes the time correct but a day behind.

From memory I downloaded a TZ app from somewhere - sorry cant recall where - I must have "sideloaded" it.

That site is very useful. If you hunt around it will tell you how you can install things that arent part of the official amazon store.

Mine is set to Auckland NZ and seems to do all the daylight savings stuff perfectly.

So I've been having fun playing with my new (second-hand) Fire TV, but one thing has eluded me. I want to have Kodi start up when the Fire TV is rebooted. Google searching indicated this was possible using ADBFire (now ADBLink), but the new software doesn't match the old guides. I'm beginning to suspect that what I want to do isn't possible (anymore). Can anyone confirm this to save me endlessly chasing something that doesn't exist? Or if it is possible, point me in the direction of the right instructions?

I have a Fire TV 4K (2nd gen). Recently it has become apparent that subtitles aren't working on the Netflix app. I've looked at all the settings for subtitles (inc. online in my Netflix and Amazon accounts). I've directed it away from DNS4me servers, I've changed location and timezones to NZ, and then to the US, I've even deleted and reinstalled the Netflix app - all to no effect. Does anyone have any insight?

Do you just mean have Kodi appear on the front menu as an app? If so press and hold the = key at the main menu and you'll see Kodi and can then move it to the front of the Apps listing instead of having to go to the menu -> Apps and load that way..
