Technically you might be right, TVNZ might be a partner and they are paying for the right to be a partner.

From public view point, I don't see that. I see it as Spark wanting a backup plan, they are dipping there toes and they want to deliver a solid product. Spark  know majority of NZ still watch freeview and would be outraged if it was solely online.

TVNZ are a short term solution nothing more.

From many threads here, people hate Sky as while it has neat 100% coverage many cannot afford it. Many hate streaming as its too hard for many, they want the Sky remote back. That's why there is a FTA partner, and for backup. In any case, TVNZ needs its share of revenue, as its a partner, no matter why they are a partner

Still some work to do on the iOS app...

Starting up my iPad, I selected play from the beginning rather than live, being about 40 minutes behind the live coverage. It started up and played great, so I then selected AirPlay to my AppleTV, and... it started from Live coverage. Eh? I don't think it's done that one before. Just as well I wasn't 90 minutes behind otherwise that could've been a big time spoiler.

Later on after pausing for 5 minutes, I lost the airplay connection and as usual the iPad threw some cryptic error as it always does when it drops the Airplay link for whatever reason (although I had no random drops today which was pleasing). Oddly though, there was no resume option offered on my iPad when I backed out and in to play the stream again. I dunno where the resume option has gone as it wasn't offered when I was watching a bit of the post race coverage on my iPhone and started and stopped things a couple of times.

Anyway - general playback was good. It's still all the rough edges though that make things a bit more cumbersome than they should be.

Interesting as i see the iOS version the best. Boring in fact, its just works. Why does your Airplay dropout? You need to fix that. For the resume, I use an iPad Air 1 to airplay. I installed the app on the iPad Pro 12.9 just today, and it picked up the resume from a half hour before. I've not noticed resume being lost.

I see the +10 and -10 skip is now o the iOS app, great

I am now finding SS on the iOS app to be better than Sky. No recording needed, no need to put up with FFW limited to 30X. I used to miss the Sky remote, not now

I'll double check I'm on the latest version of the iOS app as sometimes my iPad is a bit reluctant to update. The random dropouts weren't happening for Canada which was pleasing. I've just had a look now and the resume functionality is clearly evident on my iPhone. It's not something to do with Live vs VOD perhaps?

Like you I am very happy to not have to think about recording my all important F1 on the SKY box. It's just there ready and waiting for when I want to watch.

Has anyone installed and tried the Samsung app - is it up to expectations?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I see from tonights Newshub that Spark Sport had another fail.  Forty minutes of no coverage of the NZ-SCO U20's World Champs.

And again it wasnt SparkSports fault.  Always someone else.

I guess it was rugby's turn to feel the hockey fans pain.....

@eracode I have installed the Samsung app on my Q7 tv.

I only have the RWC sub, so I have not been able to play any live stream stuff, but the old rugby footage plays ok.

Well on their Facebook comments support said it was due to an overseas broadcaster not supplying the stream. Yet the NZherald was talking about a satellite problem.

The interesting thing i was scanning the Cband Asiasat 5 the same morning and saw

Asiasat 5 3720 H Sr 30000 Fec 3/4 8PSK
Provider EBUER
"SM3s1 FIFA U20"
"SM3s1 FIFA U20"
"SM3s3 Rugby SAxGE FRxWA NZxSC" U20 Rugby

and sure enough on the 3rd channel as indicated in the naming it was playing out France vs Wales U20 Rugby...at the 78th minute.. I didnt stay watching but surely the NZ vs Scotland came on straight after? i can't confirm that it did but going by the channel name, why else would they list all three matches in the channel name..i've not seen that previously.

I'm thinking they dont use the Asiasat feed and the issue was their streaming supplier having an issue in the U.S with the U.S satellite feed.

You hate SS eh lol!   Sky you love, as I do.

As for SS, well, its 10/10 on F1 now. Boringly, it just works. Better picture, no limit of 30X FFW . Off course I still love Sky, but my use case of SS is its just easy

Is there a minimum firmware version for the chromecast to be supported?

I have an original v1 root version, Youtube works, but Spark Sport just has a splash screen then stops.

I checked this for you. It is and does with on a original gen 1 CC. Do they auto update firmware? My contact believes they do

Can you unroot it to get back to standard firmware?

Yeah I can unroot and move from circa 1.16 firmware to newer, but wanted to confirm before I get rid of the little benefit of a root chromecast...

Question I guess should have been what is the minimum version for it to work?

Will try on another connection before I unroot and see if that makes any difference.

Sweet. My contact was using it on original gen 1 without any issues.

Just received:

The sports included with the Spark Sport monthly subscription are growing, with a range of exciting new sporting events being added to the platform.

This Sunday (16 June), Spark Sport subscribers will be able to tune into Spark Sport’s first boxing event: Josh Warrington versus Kid Galahad at First Direct Arena in Leeds, both live and on demand.

This fight is included as part of a 2-year deal that Spark Sport has made with Protocol Sports marketing, a world-leading distributor of Boxing rights, to bring 24 live world championship events over the next two years. Each event will include the feature boxing match and all undercard boxing matches included in the international feed. Further fights will be confirmed in due course.

Emerging in 2018 as one of Boxing’s most credible young champions, the blistering pace of Josh Warrington (28-0, 6 KO) shocked the Boxing world with dominant performances against long-time highly-respected world champions Lee Selby and Carl Frampton to stamp his authority as the #1 Featherweight in the world and one of Boxing's fastest-emerging talents.

Not one to shy away from challenges, Warrington’s second world title defence of the IBF belt will come against the heavy-handed and undefeated Kid Galahad (26-0, 15 KO), a fighter with undeniable Boxing skills who can quickly ascend to the top of the Featherweight division with a victory over Warrington.

In partnership with Lagardère Sports, a global leader in sports and esports marketing, Spark Sport is also bringing a range of golf, athletics and e-sports titles to New Zealand sports fans.

In November, Spark Sport will play host to the Emirates Australian Open 2019, and in November next year golf fans will also be able to catch the 2020 Emirates Australian Open. Golf fans will be able to watch all the action live or on demand within the price of their Spark Sport subscription.

Throughout 2019, Spark Sport will be the home of the e-sports BLAST Pro Series, featuring tournaments from right around the world. The first cab off the rank will be a 2-day tournament, BLAST Los Angeles on 13 July 2019. Six world-class Counter-Strike teams will battle it out to win their share of the $250,000 prize pool.

Spark Sport will also show the IAAF World Challenge in 2019 and 2020. During June and September this year, athletics fans will be able to watch the World Challenge League in various locations around Europe, with athletes competing in a range of disciplines including races from 100 to 5000 Metres, 100 Metres Hurdles, Pole Value and Long Jump.

Karen Lay, Executive Director of Media Sales at Lagardère Sports, said, “With the growing interest in exciting and exclusive sports and esports content across the world, we are delighted to partner Spark Sport to bring some of the best sporting action to their subscribers. As a market leader in media rights, we consistently aim for a win-win: engaging fans with high quality sports content while bringing maximum value for our partners.”
