I am looking for a watch or wearable device to run with which will provide GPS tracking and music via bluetooth. Basically trying to replace having to run with a phone in my pocket. Not bothered about heart rate monitoring.

Any ideas from anyone? Looking for as cheap as possible (as always!), don't mind whether it syncs with iPhone or Android.

Thanks

Thanks but the iPod Nano doesn't have GPS. I am also after a device that is truly wearable, like a smartwatch.

GPS uses heaps of battery, so it'd need charging regularly. I just read this review of some options, one has 8h GPS life.

What do you like the sound of from your own research?

I've been back and forth myself. Settled for just using my phone in the end. It's got every app and function available you could want and you already own it. Syncs all your run data without having to do a thing. I have it in an arm band with Bluetooth earphones as I hate the headphone cable flapping around. It works great.

I'd have preferred a watch or wearable but I just don't think they are there yet. None of them fully suit my needs. Maybe I'll re visit in a year or 2.

been running with My LG G watch R and I think it is ok, but my sweat + the charging strip on the watch= rashes on my wrist. I also need to still have it in close proximity to my phone for the gps to work so I run with a bag or my phone in my pocket ( still not ideal)

if you really want a wearable not connected to your phone, for running, you would have to pick between a wearable with music via Bluetooth or GPS if you want to keep it affordable.

Actually I found one that's exactly what he's looking for, it's not the best looking wearable but you seem like a function over form kinda guy.

There was  a motorola thing with mp3 storage and GPS.  But not sure if they kept making it.  Motoactv - https://motoactv.com/home/page/features.html

http://www.adidas.com/us/micoach-smart-run-watch/G76792.html  Seem to have one also.    Either of these will replace your phone entirely.

Look at the old school Garmin small handheld GPS Etrex Ventura - robust, handle drops, water resistant and runs on two AA batteries for many-many hours.
With the serial cable - all data can be uploaded to your PC (heaps of Garmin apps out there). Not wearable on your wrist though.

I still use it as a tracking device if out in the wild, mainly due to the common battery types.
GPS watches from Garmin - have them as well - they are not that greedy on the internal Li-Ion battery but those require proprietary ANT Stick for data transfer which I do not have and still looking to get one cheap.

I use the Adidas MiCoach SmartRun has everything you require (plus a heart rate monitor) Not the cheapest one around, but is the most complete and apart from sometimes slow GPS finding from startup, it has been fantastic.

The built in training plans have been amazing for getting my 1/2 marathon times down
