Maybe we can use Kingseat Hospital for isolation, its not doing much at the moment.

Plenty of space for people to exercise in separate groups.

The isolation center with history and character.

No, because there will be leaks, because NZ doesnt do a very good job, apparently. And because a few fisherman share rooms so that also is the end of the world, we are not any good at border control. Apparently. We could check various leading experts, but they also have varying messages.

That isn't correct, and that isn't what Sir David  Skegg is calling for. Double bedding increases the risk as per his comments. Why would they be double bedding, rather than putting each n their own quarantine space.

Other countries can do it. How many leaks has Australia had from their MIQs since their big leak?

Any quarantine is a risk. A family of 4 is more a risk than two fisherman in the same suite. If two fisherman in a suite is a risk why have we allowed families to share suites?

Yes, I am well aware that NZ has poor border control, as few other countries have issues, and the border is easy to be 100% secure.

No it isn't the same risk at all. That family travelled together were likely in close contact for potentially weeks so each member are far more likely to be  have been infected from each other well before they entered MIQ.

Whereas these people double bunked may have been complete strangers. So far more likely to  infect each other sometime  during the 14 day MIQ period .

If Sir David Skegg isn't happy with double bunking , then we shouldn't be double bunking. The only reason I can think of that we are doing it is for cost savings.

You're speculating. You've decided that this family will get Covid well before they arrive in MIQ and not any other time in the travels home. Ignored that they arrive back in a city for the trip home and get infected days before travel. Or their flight prior to the last flight to AKL. Yet the fisherman arrive and infect each other. End of the day the fisherman are like the family, one infect the other, happens to families in MIQ anyway, doesn't matter ss they are all in MIQ.

True,  but by using an alternative method you will not be advised digitally of any potential infection locations where you were present at the same time as an infected case....

You will have to manually have to match any public health advisory with your list of past locations and times .....

I'm just making more of an effort to check in using swarm now. I get a list of places nearby. No qr code or the more frequent typing of a name of a place in the MOH app. No idea how those would match up when it's a free text field unless they're very loose with matching text.

Denmark are going to cull 17 million minks infected with covid.

According to reports, in some it's mutated and the mutated strain has infected (at least) 12 people.

The mutated strain apparently does not respond strongly to C19 antibodies, so raises the question about effectiveness of future C-19 vaccines.

It's been known for a while that mustelids can get C-19.
If it turns out that this is a functionally different new strain, it raises all kind of possibilities - probably none of them good (unless it's able to be contained / eliminated 100%).

And around 20 December we will read sobbing stories of people who can't leave MIQ facilities to spend time with their dying relatives on New Year's Day.

Yeah, but before the 20th we will have already had a large helping of the nightly news shows on the 12-15th December giving air time to the "I won't be able to see grandad for his last Christmas"  - So I think we will probably all be a bit over it....

It's actually not the culling that worries me, it's the non culling of animals in other parts of the world for whatever reason, well I better try not to think too much ... oh dear

It was known that transmission back to humans from mink (and probably other) animals happens.  What's happened here though is a mutation that's evolved in minks that presumably gave the virus an advantage in that species, but that's unlikely to be an advantage in humans.

I wouldn't panic, they seem to think there's "reduced" but not "no" response to human C-19 antibodies, there's not enough information about anything else yet.  We'll see...

The next season of The Orville has been delayed by C19... I thought they would be isolated in the spaceship far from our solar system?

Even they don't have a vaccine yet :)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.
