Victoria now 10 consecutive days with zero cases https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/health-wellbeing/victoria-records-tenth-double-donut-covid-day-after-sundays-next-step-announcement-c-1545015
Singapore no local cases for 3 days
DS248:
Amazing how many are positive about US efforts to contain the coronavirus.
eg. from exit polls, 50% of those surveyed in Georgia consider US efforts to contain the virus are going well.
My brother and his wife, who live in South Carolina, say that they don't know anyone who has had covid, let alone died of it. Which is quite credible, given the infection rate is 3.6% (Worldometer) and that the infection rate in the suburban middle class is likely much lower. (Certainly *I* don't know anyone who has had covid). So, for them (and me), there's no direct, personal evidence that the disease is out of control and getting worse. Which in turn means that statements like "it's under control" and "we're turning the corner" are credible, especially amongst those who accept that the MSM is full of fake news, and want to believe that all is in fact well.
So I'm not surprised that 50% of those in Georgia think it's going well. And I expect that there is a strong correlation with who they voted for, so the accurate value is 50.5% = 49.3% + 1.2% (Libertarian).
Just to be clear, I'm commenting on the *perception* of the disease, not the actual situation. *I* believe the science.

The other number to watch in Victoria is the active cases in the state, which have fallen from steadily from 20 to 10 to 4 yesterday... so they are heading to "double zero" which is the first step to "elimination"

Also note that the most recent of the 4 active cases must now be at least 11 days since testing positive & probably 14 days+ since being infected. Unlikely therefore that any of them remain infectious. So yes, looking positive (assuming they did not infect one of their carers sometime over the last week!).
nztim: Oh dear - Wife and I are isolating Tomorrow - An employee at one of my clients was on the ANZ flight from Auckland to Wellington Thursday with that person who tested positive and went to work Friday. I visited that site on that Friday.
Isolating until she gets negative results
Negative result came back today! Thankgoodness

This current border leak is a bit of a concern. Hundreds potentially are contacts in some way, or contacts of contacts. Even potentially involving a community meeting in a town. Time will tell.
The MOH are also saying the same old thing that people need to scan. But the fact they keep saying this, rather than getting the government to require it shows that it needs to be compulsory.

To be honest I would continue to be cautious, and get another test if you feel a sniffle/temperature etc
At the Presser today Bloomfield talked about not testing some of the close work contacts until Day 4-5.... as it might not have incubated straight away...

I think people are still required to isolate for 14 days, as it is the 14 days that is the belts, and the test is only the braces, as the test is never 100% accurate.

Another bullet dodged?
Its certainly looking hopeful......
One thing in our favour is that the cases have been tested very quickly, so we are able to "jump" ahead of it....
Pfizer's vaccine seems to work. ~90% efficacy in phase 3 trials.
Vaccine is two shots, administered three weeks apart.
It needs to be stored and transported at -70 deg C. This is a problem.
Pfizer claim they could have 1.3 billion doses ready by mid 2021. (I don't know if that means 2 shots for 1.3 billion people - probably not).
Mike Pence, the lame duck Vice President of the US, has boldly claimed personal victory for his and the lame duck President's "Operation Warp Speed". Pfizer have corrected him by stating that they weren't part of Operation Warp Speed and took no funding from the US - because they wanted to maintain independence in their development program.
Hopefully other vaccine candidates that are administered as single shot and can be stored/distributed more easily - at normal refrigeration temperatures - will be effective. We'll know about those before Pfizer's vaccine is available.
Clearly how the vaccine is rolled out is going to get political. It would be extremely dumb to "take down safeguards against infection" too early and open everything up when free availability of the vaccine is months or even years away, but I'm reasonably sure that what 's going to happen.
The first thing I did was to check which vaccine NZ govt bought
some details about operation warp speed.

I wish you'd finish a comment...
Yes. They (we) have an agreement to receive 1.5 million doses of the Pfizer BioNTtech vaccine.
