@Scott3: Re the aussie vaccine situation, the big news story there today is that the cira 72% effecancy of the oxford vaccine (that aussie is producing under licence in near Melbourne) is not going to be sufficient to get herd immunity.

It is not known if herd immunity occurs at any level of covid vaccination. In the covid case we know vaccination prevents symptoms and death - we don't know if immune people are also non-infectious at this time. Therefore vaccination effect on R value is not known, as explained by @sbiddle in an earlier post.

Imo it's likely there is some effect on R value based on reducing severity of symptoms but personally I have no real idea about this.

Which presumably means getting in a taxi at the airport to go to your house/hotel/what ever...

This is what NZ stopped doing in April 2020.....

Yeah, although to be honest in the grand scheme of things its more a political disaster than a medical one,

Pfizer have 6 US production sites for their Vaccine,  and said as last as November 2020 they had the capacity to produce 50 million doses in November and December....

As of today total vaccines given worldwide were 38 million and some of those will be the Moderna one..... There is vaccine out there... its just a question of who has ordered it and were it is in the shipping pipeline..

The US were closing in on 4% of the population having at least one shot..with daily vaccination now over 1 million/Day.. although at that rate it will still take 2 years to give everyone two shots....so more work needed...

While its hard to say, little sympathy. The formula was there, if you wish to avoid MIQ and allow haircuts, and nails, work, schools, etc, what do you expect?

Yes, I mentioned in the dick thread. Held back reserves, then back tracked, but there was never any reserves. Its like a school boy age 7 is running that show. At least they now elected an adult, who has already done 1000 X more despite not having the keys yet

What I heard today is that they are just currently doing 900,000 per day so the Biden 100 million in 100 days is very doable. Still few ducks to line up, as production via Trump has been poor, but they can get there.

We had 10 fatalities of 90+ aged people who died shortly after vaccination. All are definetely NOT related to the vaccine. But as expected some people try to push it in that direction for their conspiracy theories.

Boris wants negative tests and "self-isolation" for ten days. We know "self-isolation" doesn't work, so there is this next (story not online yet, out Sunday UK time):
