Looks like the Govt got pinged on the technical approval of the COVID vaccine for the national roll out,

but the ruling will have no impact as they will legislate to  "make it legal" tomorrow....

The Government is aware of a High Court decision today about processes to grant provisional consent to some approved medicines, and is making a technical amendment to modernise the law.

The Court has said that while the Minister of Health can, under Section 23 of the Medicines Act, grant approval for Medsafe-approved medicines to be used by a limited number of patients, it’s arguable whether it can be done for the whole population.

“The Government will introduce a Bill tomorrow to make sure New Zealanders continue to have timely access to the medicines and treatments they need. The Medicines Amendment Bill is expected to be passed under urgency tomorrow in order to protect New Zealanders early access to medicines when needed,” Andrew Little said.

Good news - this could make vaccine roll-out much easier, specially in smaller centres:

BBC News - Pfizer vaccine can now be stored in fridge for longer, EU drug regulator says

breaking

The European Union's drugs regulator has said the Pfizer Covid vaccine can now be stored at fridge temperature for much longer than it previously recommended.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said that once the vaccines thawed, unopened vials could be kept in the fridge for up to a month.

The current limit is just five days.

The increased flexibility is expected to have a significant impact on the vaccine roll-out across the EU.

The need for transport and storage at very low temperatures has been one of the major disadvantages of the Pfizer jab.

Here we're down to 50 infections per 100k per week and it seems next weekend we'll have a big relief after 5 month of closures. Maybe we'll wonder when coming back what services/shops/locations have closed forever. Most vaccination priorization categories have been removed and it gets accessible for everybody.

For the benefit of those late to the conversation or confuse this with an NZ comment. Germany ---right?

Yes, indeed. But be assured, we produce vaccine under highest urgence for the ROW as well.

Looking at weather forecast we won't need fridges and freezers

Dratsab:

On2or3wheels: How are people finding the side effects after the 2nd jab? In Oz (sorry for all the Australian news), people requiring a day off work after it is running at 22%.

I had a moderately achy deltoid muscle for a couple of days. I know people who've had to have time off work, a chap in the office developed a major headache. It's one of those YMMV things, so not worth worrying about other peoples experiences - yours will be what it is :-)

Remember as well that many in Australia are getting AZ vs Pfizer here, and people's reactions to both are differing.

I had my first jab at lunchtime today and felt fine all afternoon but around 5am started to get a pretty sore arm around the jab spot.

The issue is a massive one - much like the fact the lock down last year was illegal for the first 9 days.

It's not so much the implications that are the problem in this case (because the judge refused to grant an order stopping the vaccine rollout) but the fact our laws and health orders given under the health act have either been drafted poorly or have not followed the law.

This is also very good

https://www.wired.com/story/the-teeny-tiny-scientific-screwup-that-helped-covid-kill/

That article is a great read.

The below WHO tweet is terrible with hindsight, "FACT:" in capital letters, then a statement that is now proven false.

And an image below that which asks people to help stop misinfomation, and to verify facts before sharing...

https://twitter.com/WHO/status/1243972193169616898

Still credit to the WHO for keeping these tweets live, and updating their official advice more recently regarding airborne transmission.

They people who took this case, what were they trying to achieve? Was it pricing a technical point, a matter of legal principle, or were they trying to stop the vaccine program.

If it was the last surely they expected the government to legislate of they won and nothing to change.

Probiably best not to go too far into this, but they state opposition to compulsory vaccinations seems to be their main goal, with "body sovereignty, human rights, accountability and the law" being a lesser goal.

"Nga Kaitiaki Tuku Iho Medical Action Society Incorporated

This is a separate society set up to undertake action against compulsory vaccinations.

KTI MedAct Incorporated is about body sovereignty, human rights, accountability and the law . Currently, proceedings are being taken against no fewer than seven defendants in respect of five separate fields of action.

Broadly, these draw attention to breaches of the law by the government. The Prime Minister is one defendant. Funds are sought to assist Sue Grey in our legal representation. All Donations gratefully received."

Sue Grey seems to be the main player behind it. She is a Politician with the New Zealand Outdoors party. In general: Anti 1080 / Anti 5g / Anti Pfizer mRNA covid-19 vaccine.

In terms of what they were trying to achieve, it could just simply be to draw more attention to their political movement...

But in terms of their organisation it would fall under "Accountability and the law", and their action correctly identified to the fact that the current law didn't allow the action the government to take the action. This is fair enough the government should be abiding by the law. But of course with parliament being supreme it does have the power to alter laws, as will happen in this case tomorrow.
