Cohorting has to be helping.

Most cases in MIQ are picked up very early in their stay. Chances are after that that no more cases will be in that facility and can't cross transmit.

Agreed,

I also think the decision to then transfer positive cases to jet park in Auckland helps...

not sure how OZ does it, whether the group all their positives together, or allow them to remain in their original rooms..

Day 0/1 testing should pick up anyone who arrives and is positive, they shouldn't have been out of their rooms until they have a confirmed negative result. If positive they will be transferred to jetpark. day 3 is a little more problematic.

Anyone identified as being near them on the plane or on the same bus to the hotel as them will have to remain isolated for 7 days and produce a negative result. they still have the day 0/1 and day 3 testing requirements there. Hotel should also check for any close contacts in the hotel.

The cohorting should also help as all guest departures are around a similar time so if any were positive it should have been picked up.

You obviously don't understand how testing works. Nobody gets a "negative test" to be allowed out of a facility because you can test positive for weeks or even months afterwards once you have contracted Covid.

Anybody who tests positive or contracts Covid in a MIQ facility is released when they are no longer symptomatic after a certain period of time (I forget the number of days). You are deemed recovered.

Will we get to this? Canada has mandated vaccinations for airline passengers and airline workers. To extrapolate that thinking why not all passengers on any form of enclosed transport, buses, trains etc?

There's a big difference between airline passengers and train/bus passengers, in that many city dwellers *need* to travel by public transport as part of everyday life. Whilst not being able to use an airliner would be a major inconvenience for some (especially in a country the size of Canada), there are alternatives. Mandating vaccinations for public transport users is effectively mandating injections for *everyone* in a large city. And probably for most children in the countryside (think school buses).

Whilst I'm 100% in favour of everyone getting vaccinated, I think that forcing them to raises ethical issues, and therefore political issues for the government. But it may be a nettle that they have to grasp.

It works for drivers licences, firearms licences, seat belts, as well as the other myriad of laws we have to obey. No, that's not "everyone" but science and common sense should take a front seat here. They may not be forced to vaccinate, so they retain that human right, but of the many safety measures transport has, vaccination for users is another measure. Drunks can be denied access to Planes, Trains and Automobiles (taxi) so I don't see an issue with morality or human rights

I'm all for slowly making it harder to do things when you are not vaccinated.
Give people more and more reason to get the jab.

Once we have rolled out to everyone will to get vaccinated, we will need to provide incentives for those who are remaining - carrot and stick time at that stage.

My Sister in law in Australia "doesn't think the vaccination is for her yet". She is trying to work out how to travel interstate as currently it will require vaccination or negative covid test 48 hr before leaving and again 48 hours before return.
Hopefully even this small nudge will push her into getting vaccinated.

I agree there is a difference but Covid doesn't differentiate between which form of transport you use. All those forms of transport pose the same risk of infection occurring on board, so why just pick on one? I will concede airline travel, by its very nature, is a fast and generally long distance from of travel and has the potential to spread the virus more widely more quickly,

Rolled up to the Chemist today for by First Jab (by appointment).. plenty of others there too.

Good flow and system, in and out within 25 minutes, looked like 4-5 ppl per 15 min slot so that's potentially around 500 ppl per day  at one location....

Looking  at the numbers being published by MoH, we hit a rolling 7 day total of 307K doses yesterday.. so things are ramping up....

Canada's vaccination requirements for Airline and interprovincial rail are mandated by the Federal Govt which regulates airports and inter province rail travel..  they have no jurisdiction over transit within provinces,

I would expect some provinces/cities to look at similar mandates for within regional travel in the future,,,

PS i never said out of the facility i said out of their room. guests cant go out of a smoke or exercise until they present a negative test.

in the cases your bringing up then that's a case for a medical officer to review and make a decision on.

Damn, I would have been prepared to happily 'bare arms' for this if I hadn't had my first jab already.
