Extending AKL is a given, I suspect it will be more than another week. While the SI is clear, I read somewhere that they need more time to locate anyone that has travelled to the SI from any POI's. Media speculation is SI stays L4 till at least Sunday night.

Media speculation is meaningless, the only information that counts is the facts that comes from the Cabinet Office and the PMs office in the Beehive.

The media is an entirely necessary check on the government and bueracracy. This has been demonstrated time again, especially with the ministry of health having a tendancy to tell porkies to the politicians.

It's probably healthier for many people not to read the press as it can make them uncertain or scared but they are doing an incredibly important job.

I don't understand why people are not making use of the Healthpoint website (which I note Ashley Bloomfield spruiks every single day) which lists testing locations - of which there are plenty. I acknowledge that it's unfortunate your call to two GPs was not answered, but we have always been asked to call ahead if symptomatic so that they can make arrangements so it's not their fault you turned up when the nurse was on leave. To be blunt - I don't think you are putting in enough effort to get tested.

I looked at the website for test sites. Found two in my area. Called one directly and booked (not Auckland). It just worked for us.

what are the chances we end up like NSW. we may be in lockdown but our MIQ is still operating (MIQ = leaky) ...

fingers crossed ...

NSW is where it is because they didn't lockdown early enough and still have shops etc operating. Lockdowns do work if done properly. The question is how long the lockdown is needed for. We have come out of lockdown too early before in Auckland, and they then needed to go back into lockdown again. So it is an expensive mistake to make.

In 3 months we could be shouting about Beta that's doing well against Delta in Brazil.
These studies take time.

I doubt it.

USCDC estimates of variants distribution based on extrapolation from sequenced cases indicate that 98.8% of new cases in the US are Delta (including AY1, 2 and 3 "delta plus" strains).  Delta has crushed all other strains, including Beta. Delta AY.3 is there in significant numbers (12.3% of cases), but replication rate based on number of sequenced cases seems to show if anything, it's slightly less contagious (but still far more contagious than any non-delta strain) and in areas where it's more dominant, it doesn't seem to be causing worse disease than "vanilla" Delta.

I have a number of colleagues in NSW and they routinely talk about their "hard lockdown" which is the effective equivalent of our Level 3.

They line up to buy takeaway coffees then go to the park and drink them together while their kids play on jungle gyms etc.

They exercise with one person from outside their bubble...but not exclusively.

It's no wonder they are still suffering.

They are absolutely serving their shareholders. That doesn't mean their role isn't important.

Yep I used the website as well, I think most people are?

Im just so over all the propaganda and misinformation from people re lockdowns, that there really is a virus, vaccines are nothing new and any comments on side effects etc shows misinformation about virology.

Either way just looking forward to getting the jab. At least it wont leave a scar like the ones we got in school for TB.

Edit: I do wonder if variant specific vaccines will be in production and we will receive possibly a 3rd shot for all known variants at that point in time. I also presume we will get a 3rd booster shot in time. But looking at how unfairly the vaccine has been spread, its morally wrong for us to have a 3rd before all people get the 1st minimum.

Saw good data on Pfizer-Bon vaccine against different variants and its efficacy for both complete protection and for symptom reduction in cases where people were vaccinated. Its doing a damn good job by the early stats imo.

We had a flight booked for today and returning on Monday. Both were cancelled by AirNZ on Thursday. I believe they have taken the approach that if you’re an essential traveller then you need to rebook the cancelled flight.

Depends. Looking at the board, most are cancelled and the app may tell you. Reality, people in Queenstown turned up and found it was

But the PM did stand up on Wed and request people with flights in the next 7 days that know they are not essential and will not be taking, call and cancel them if you aren't going to make it. It was messing up the scheduling (and presumably freight allocations)

/edit and as above. They now are on 'noone should fly' unless permitted

Went for a quick bit of exercise by our stream, very please to see all folks we passed were wearing masks. The Ducks, Pukeko, Tui and Kereru were not wearing masks so we need to sort that out.

Do you need to wear them outside? No one I have seen is, although if there are a lot of people around that may be different.
