It's like the Americans refusing to wear face masks as an expression of their 1st amendment rights.

I hope not it doesn't come to this for them, but I wonder if Donald Duck, Lady Gaga and Freddie Mercury might have second thoughts at the point the ICU nurse straps the ventilator on?

This is interesting. Auckland Council have made the judgment call that the official government app and hence any other similar solutions like Rippl (which WCC and DCC are using), are not compliant with their statutory contact tracing requirements.

The council does not have access to the data held securely within the government’s app on our customer’s phones. So, if the council were required to carry out any contact tracing, it would not be able to use the information from the NZ COVID Tracer app. And for technical reasons, it is not possible to integrate the two systems.”

It's a bit of a mish-mash. Unless a book sharing like place is Classified as retail?

Then they push their own app as a method of tracing - BUT, you need everyone to use it or it's not much good. As the requirement is you have to hand over a valid log of everyone if there is a trace need.

So unless everyone does it, it probably needs the backup.

There are multiple different ways you can set up a contact tracing register. For example, a paper register, using an app or scanning a membership card.

If you have an existing booking system, such as a hairdresser or doctor, consider whether you can use that to meet your record-keeping requirements.

Your contact tracing register or record-keeping system must collect people’s:

full name
phone number or email or other effective means of communicating with them
date of entering the business
time in and out.

There are many different apps you can use to collect information to help with contact tracing.

The Ministry of Health has created a tracing app — NZ COVID Tracer. This app works by scanning a QR code on a poster at participating businesses. The app then keeps track of where someone has scanned so they know where they have been.

The only thing it won't do, unless you zap twice - is the in and out

I've now found a second place that has the MoH QR code, Bunnings of all places. Went pretty smoothly, but I didn't see anyone else using it.

I did see the code at Mitre 10 yesterday. I saw at least 10 people enter the store and nobody even looked at it, much less used it.

I went into Dunedin City Mazda; walked right past their pen and paper setup - asked the question I needed to ask and then walked out
There was no direction to sign anything.

However I went to a food truck on Saturday night and before I could order I had to prove I had either signed their pen and paper sign in or used the Rippl app QR code.

Haven't yet seen a MOH code for the official app, not that I went anywhere in the weekend

I would be happy if they just quoted their cellphone number or phone if no cell. That would enable the alerts to be sent out or contact made.

I agree compliance with contract tracing is slack. If we went into level 1 and there was an outbreak I fear we would have to go back to level 4 because contract tracing of those potentially infected could not be carried out effectively.

I am part of the problem. I went to to the MBIE website to get a premises contact QR code for a business I am associated with but bailed out as the site required a RealMe login to get the OR code.

I researched the rigmarole to get a RealMe ID and went nah! can't be bothered.

it's not that hard and if you use IRD or most other Govt Departments its makes sense to have one id that can be used in all sites

I don't disagree but how many have a RealMe ID or would be prepared to make the effort to get one.

The objective is to overcome the slackness in the general population who have already demonstrated they are not prepared to make an effort. Putting barriers in their path won't improve the situation

Its a puzzle why the process for a company to get a covid code is made so difficult, and complex.
Never mind why non registered companies and clubs and other groups can't easily register so they can have a code if the want at their event ?

Do they really think there are significant numbers of people that would spend the time to make fake registrations.
For what end ?
Having a 0.001% fake registrations would hardly break the system anyway.
Let alone that you can just take a photo and print someone else's if you were so inclined to this stupidity.

Make it easy, simple if you want quick uptake.

It would be interesting to know the reasons for this complexity.

It seems they created a entirely new digital structure to handle the Identification module (obtaining an ID that they recognise your business by) instead of in-house it seems.

You need to get yourself in check and then ask them to assign one. Which is the hard part.
