That just tells me you should booster with a non pfizer vaccine to get wider coverage. What does the science say about that?

With the possibility of multiple vaccines being used in different combinations, gaps between doses etc, then there's a whole extra level of difficulty collating useful data.

Throw into the mix that in many places, some reasonably high number of people in the trials would have been exposed to C-19 either before vaccination or between shots or after. You can test if they've been exposed, but that's not going to able to show when they were exposed.

So I don't think the science is going to show much at all beyond efficacy of a third booster shot - which seems to work to significantly boost antibody levels, but for how long - nobody knows.

It seems like Wellington might be doing OK. That's good to hear.

Auckland I am less optimistic about. The wider the Delta net gets, the more likely it is to get into parts of the community that largely do not care whether they wear a mask to the supermarket or not, and also probably the exact kind of people that supermarkets don't refuse entry to out of concerns for the safety of their staff.

This is the bit I worry about. If we're not careful, it could end up as endemic.

Auckland is near also flatlining. Small sample though, but it "looks" like testing is hoovering up pre lockdown spread as people become symptomatic or had to get a  test if exposed. Spread should have been hit hard by the lockdown a week ago

My concern is not the people who obey the letter of the law and the spirit of the lockdown. If we start getting LOIs post-lockdown then the people who know better or won't play ball are putting themselves at the front of the queue to get it. This is how NSW got out of hand - it spread between the idiots who didn't want to play by the rules and circulated in their households, who then infected other idiots. If one of them gets sick enough, they could infect hospital workers or other people needing medical care.

I think it's amazing that they managed to sequence traces of the RNA in Warkworth wastewater and find that it was genomically linked to the cluster.

We had guesses at number of new cases before the announcement, our son won the jackpot - spot on 41.

I'm thinking it's looking better, the high number of cases linked to the AOG cluster in the Samoan community is unfortunate, but I'm confident they'll be doing the right thing.

The Australian prime minister said you only needed to look at what was happening in New Zealand, with an extended lockdown announced on Monday, to prove striving for Covid-zero was not a realistic option with the Delta strain.

"New Zealand can't do that. They were following an elimination strategy. They're in lockdown. The way through is to get to those 70 per cent and 80 per cent marks (for vaccination) and open safely," he said.

IMO it would be better if both SM and JA would put a lid on critical trans Tasman comments.  It's not as if we aren't trying to get vaccination rates up, and SM's having enough problems convincing State premiers that the mishandling of the Sydney outbreak wasn't a serious error - but a feature of "the plan".

ScoMo doesnt get it

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia/300389925/covid19-australias-pm-slams-nzs-approach-hits-back-at-state-opposition-to-covidnormal

Its NOT about NZ wanting to live in a different world, never has been. Its about getting vaccinated THEN live in the obvious endemic world. Until then we eliminate for the sake of our people and economy. In ScoMo's case his people and economy are being thrashed, so he's throwing his toys.

I agree, hopefully the lockdown has had the desired effect.

It seems we will see a lot of cases from the AOG Church sub-cluster. Hopefully there are no prayer meetings at peoples houses like last August. They seem to have taken up the baton re. testing, so hopefully are doing it re. isolating as well.

I'm picking Level 4 Auckland until at least 7th September, and then only if the cases flatline and start falling by this weekend.

Looks like Coromandel got away with a Wellington there (when Wellington had a Delta case visit for the weekend).

Yes, I get that. We have covidiots but I'd wager our numbers are less then theirs. Both in volume and outrageousness. You will always have that though. If its less shere and remember NSW was let go due to late and lite lockdowns, we have avoided that.

When will we learn? Looks like it was an outbreak just waiting to happen, it really wasn't a matter of if, it was just a matter of when. What's more there's a Covid vaccination centre there as well. Who makes these decisions? Is there no critical analysis of what might happen? How can we be so dumb?

Public walks right into Crowne Plaza mess

Incomprehensible!

We clearly need a funded, completely independent public watchdog acting purely in the public's interest, reporting directly to the public.

We did to some extent during the first lockdown last year, we had the Epidemic Response Committee, but not this time.

Parliament arrangements a test for Labour backbenchers?

There are companies supposed to do contactless deliveries only but are now set up for "contactless collection". Is this acceptable?

Workplace operations at COVID-19 alert levels — business.govt.nz:

"Agricultural supply stores and pet stores cannot open but can offer contactless delivery."
