He didn't have Covid when he left Jail. He had it by the time he got home.

All things point to him having caught it in jail. Even if he had a test when he left he could have caught it the day he left and been asymptomatic?

Looking towards the UK where current vaccination rates are slowing, currently 73% first dose and 66.7% fully vaccinated. Daily cases yesterday were 31,600 and currently 7,874 people in hospital. Only 1% of deaths are fully vaccinated.

Got this text from a friend in Leeds

"Boris warning on Friday that we may have to go into lockdown again as cases are almost as high as the peak... and a lot higher than they were this time last year. And hospital admissions are starting to get near the danger threshold again... and we are barely in autumn.

The vaccines have greatly reduced severe illness and deaths.. but case numbers seem almost unaffected."

The virus has adapted to the stage where nothing is going to stop it. All we are doing is slowing it down for a while and it waits until it gets the go ahead again. It is going to be like the common cold only more deadly. Who here has not had a cold of some sort in the last few years.

Trying to eliminate it now without a level 5+ type lockdown is like pushing water uphill with a rake.

Actually they don't really point to that at all. Corrections have been keen to point out he can't have caught it in MECF, and to be fair - if we did in fact have Covid circulating wild in the prison population we probably would have seen a large number of positives by now. They've not yet released the how and the when but they do evidently know this now.

From Stuff: 'Ardern said: “We now know how he got Covid ... when and who from.”'

"A man allegedly breached Covid-19 restrictions by using a work exemption to travel from Auckland to Christchurch to pick up a caravan he’d bought during lockdown.

The man was arrested by police in Wellington on Monday night as he was leaving the ferry terminal.

It’s believed he was driving back to Auckland with the caravan in tow."

Mandates seem to be working in France

By which I was meaning acceptance by the population in general as well as compliance with mask requirements.

Their case numbers have fallen by a factor of 4 - 5 over the last month but similar or larger fluctuations in case numbers are common.  Would be very difficult to separately identify the relative impacts of vaccines vs health passports vs mask mandates vs ...

France's vaccine rollout was ~1.5 months behind UK and ~4 months behind Israel, which also may be a factor (the vaccinations are relatively recent).

We are likely only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

If he got all the way from Christchurch to Wellington before he got caught then you'd have to assume that a lot of people could make long trips across the border and get away with it, assuming that they have a work exemption that they are willing to abuse.

Last week someone from Auckland wanted to buy my in-laws' trailer (on Trade Me) and come and collect it.

Too tough to vaccinate ?

Melbourne construction sites shut down after violent anti-vaccination protests
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/451939/melbourne-construction-sites-shut-down-after-violent-anti-vaccination-protests

""
Sites will only be permitted to reopen when they can demonstrate compliance with the public health orders.

Minister for Industrial Relations Tim Pallas said the move came as a direct result of poor behavior from sections of the industry.
""

In NZ  and Auckland especially its easier than ever to find a vaccination appointment, or a walk in.

Sure. Go ahead. Keep suggesting payments for people to 'do the right thing'

Just like they are now...

if you don't want to read it. This is the same one who absconded from self isolation. Then was put into and later escaped Ibis and wen home. And filmed the encounter as he was taken again. Money can't and wont change stupid. It will encourage them to exploit it more.

Unfortunately we have a group of people who are insistent that nothing these people do is ever their fault, that they're never really to blame.

Well now our fate suddenly rests on them doing what they're told, after years of doing what they want and having other people defend them no matter what they do. Guess what they're not doing?

I saw something from someone I trust in FB last night where his BIL was saying he wouldn't get that poison injected. The guy I know offered him a Box of Woodys in exchange for the vaccination 1 and 2 and he went today to have his first.

To be perfectly honest, financially incentivizing people is reasonably effective and much cheaper than lockdowns.

We live in a free country where teachers have to bow to students, they grow up doing what they want.

Suddenly they are told what to do. Syntax error. Nope. Won't do that.

According to last night's news, he was thought to have caught it off the security guards who transported him. And, interestingly, those security guards have been stood down, so I'm guessing they did something untoward. Stopped off at a tinny house???
