Exactly. I mistakenly assumed why even come here there is no point. The point is there is lots to see here, who cares. Re the law, its probably a regulation than a Statute. I assume that means a rule we can enforce but not a law they can break?

Anyone healthy and under 50 is unlikely to face life threatening issues if they get the virus, so it is probably a great time for many to come to NZ while there aren't many tourists around.

I hope the government quickly stamps down on it, they have all the power to sort it quickly under urgency. Surely they face the same issue in Oz, but I can't see them standing for that sort of thing. It is a case of a few bad actors ruining it for everyone, and could result in everyone coming into NZ requiring to go into quarantine for 14 days.

Well actually seeing UK letting it loose, and we have no word on South America and Africa, I've let myself believe that this virus is here to stay for the long haul. Maybe eventually life will be a computer game, resident evil or something. You heard it first on GZ.

Didn't the government decision that Covid-19 was a notifiable disease allow for quarantine to be enforced by law?

It is a notifiable disease since the 30th Jan. However I can't see details of this on the ministry of healths website. But it is shown here https://www.mcnz.org.nz/about-us/news-and-updates/important-information-about-novel-coronavirus-covid-19/

Did PM say why there's exception for Pacific Island countries ? Many of my friends and colleagues were wondering what the reason is since Australia is not making any exceptions (that I know of).

Island nation. Isolated. Rely on NZ for supplies. Cut them out, and they're screwed. It's our responsibility to look after them and control the borders on behalf.

Whats the point of calling the police? The role of the police is to enforce NZ law. There is no law about self isolation, so what can the police do.

The Police are ready and waiting to get involved with non compliance. News tonight.

That's it. I think most borders into most island are also closed. What we seem to need.

It's funny, I definitely thought (some) Americans would applaud their attempts to operate in a free market...

A pity they don't do it here. There have been some high priced sanitiser on auction sites here.

7th case (guy who took test and then flew to Wtg)

completely asymptomatic.

only took the test because NSW guidelines suggested he should because he had travelled from France.

AFAIK still completely asymptomatic.
