I don't think I have seen anyone happy with what was announced yesterday. Those who are anti-lockdown just see this as extending that, while those pro-elimination now see the inevitable impacts on health.

In terms of both compliance and vaccination rates, while it's easy to point to groups like gangs it ignores some of the significant and systemic barriers that exist in the demographics with lower compliance and vaccination rates. For many in those groups, there is a genuine, and frankly justified, mistrust in the government. But more pertinent is that many of those have a much harder time accessing the vaccine. It's likely harder for them to get to a vaccination site as not everyone has a car, or the money for gas. Many are less likely to have the time required during opening hours, outside of work or family commitments to go (it can take a few hours, especially if you have to take the bus). While for most these wont be insurmountable, the barrier is higher and that will inevitably lead to lower numbers than in demographics where access is easier.

When it comes to compliance, I don't really think it's especially worse in lower socio-economic groups than in higher ones, just the higher ones are more likely to get away with it (for a variety of reasons).

For me, I am in the privileged position where I could duck away from work for an hour or so, jump in my car and drive to my GP. If I think about the logistics of the same exercise if I had to take public transport, it would have been much harder, taken much longer and been much less convenient. I would have had to do more planning to ensure I didn't clash with work, and probably make up the time somewhere as I would have gotten less done that day. If I worked in a retail job, I'd be at the mercy of my shirts or how flexible my boss was.

It's easy to look from a position of privilege to point a finger at a group with less and say "they need to do more". The reality is they have to do more, sometimes a lot more, to get the same outcome.

I did mention gangs, but they are no issue its just one group added to the mix. But what I bolded, I agree, but the simple act to stay home stay safe, cannot be that hard. Cuppa tea catchup, beers, neighbours thats all basic measures being ignored. Its been quite rampant, bnot the odd exciting blaming media article, its been a constant

There is clearly significant non-compliance across all demographics, and there is a variety of factors driving this. But I don't think wilful non-compliance, deliberate flouting of the rules, is any worse in the lower socio-economic groups some are pointing the finger at (Not suggesting you are, but I've seen a LOT of comments to that effect lately).

The virus hits those communities harder, not because they are deliberately less compliant, but for all the reasons and many more in my last post. So when there are breaches of the rules, it's always going to be more visible in communities where the virus is spreading than in those where it's not.

I can't find the original tweet. But a stuff reporter did post the URL before the press conf as they loaded it..

Would that be taboo to share without that to back it up

It's still not possible to bring forward your 2nd dose appointment on the website inside of 6 weeks if you chose 6 weeks when you originally booked your first and second doses.

However I see that if you create a new appointment now, there is a selection box that asks if your appointment is for a first or second shot. If you select second shot it will ask you which vaccine (we only have 1!) and the date you originally received your first shot. It will then allow you to make a new appointment for your second shot any time 3+ weeks after the date of your first shot. Just remember to cancel your original 2nd dose appointment after you secure your new 2nd dose appointment.

I'm now getting my 2nd dose tomorrow afternoon, 5 weeks after 1st dose.

It will become more applicable when further information is released around other vaccines.

Well I hope of the Govt markets vaccines hard, and if it stalls out below 90%, they need to call time and push ahead. Its one thing for people to have to put up with lockdowns due to a global pandemic but you cannot have the likes of those causing delays

I guess the influx is no ID no beers/concerts etc? As distinct from general discourse?

If I understood this afternoon's press conference correctly, it sounds like the mobile friendly web site will be rolled out in November with an app to follow early next year. This would imply that, at least in the early stages, users will need access to mobile data in order to log in and bring up their vaccine certificate.

I can imagine there are going to be some tense situations at summer events where disorganised patrons are refused entry due to:

  • No data connection on their phone (zero prepaid balance / overdue bill).
  • No signal available at the location of the event.
  • Phone battery flat.
  • Unreliable device that suddenly decides it doesn't want to load or log into the web site.
  • Can't log into web site due to lost credentials.

It would have been good if everyone were sent a physical card in the post and encouraged to carry it everywhere. A little plastic thing like a drivers licence would be really useful for those who are clumsy with technology.

I thought it was of interested that despite the login page reading like it was saying you needed to register first on the site, and only then could use realme login. My finding was after trying to login via realme (without registering on the site first), you could then authorise realme to send your details to the site and start the registration process that way. Still had to confirm a few details like email address but process went fine and it showed my details correctly after registering.

Carry on! :) Looks better when it is still out there than me doing it and having it pulled.

It was later outlined our Pfizer card isn't even being accepted overseas. So yes, there are some non digital avenues also 'under advisement' for those who won't have the ability. Incl those who can't get the jab (LEGITIMATELY not like this current believe all mask one) to identify themselves. So it looks like this was a case of, lets give some assurances it is being worked on. The finder details... tba.

I didn't use Realme as I have let it lapse. Went through with my email address, Drivers Licence, NHI Number, a bit of authentication to and fro and all good
