Looking at the map of 'known' exposure sites we now have dots all over Auckland, many suburbs of concern.

More red dots than a farmers sale.

Hopefully we don't see continuing growth, its down to peoples response both behavior and vaccination.

Has there been any announcement on how the Pukekohe person got infected?

Linked or unlinked??

I can't recall seeing this anywhere, wondering if I missed it, or the info is still coming.

sbiddle:

The full text of the Singapore PM's speech earlier is a good read for those who didn't watch it live.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/protect-the-vulnerable-secure-singapores-future-full-text-of-pm-lees-speech-on

If 2 in a 1000, need ICU or die, with a population of around 5 million, that’s 20,000 people potentially on verge of death or dying for NZ.

I guess that must be acceptable to the powers that be, rather then the economic costs. Going to be painful living with it.

And that's why the government has been implementing lockdowns, MIQ and pushing vaccines - to reduce the potential number of deaths. That's why so many of us decided to follow through it. Because these many deaths is not acceptable outcome.

"The vast majority of local cases (more than 98 per cent) have mild or no symptoms. Only 2 per cent or less developed more serious illness. Of these, 0.2 per cent died or needed ICU treatment - just two out of every one thousand cases. The rest have needed oxygen supplementation for a few days. In other words, with vaccination, Covid-19 is no longer a dangerous disease for most of us."

I’m trying to interpret this bit

”Our data, as well as data from around the world, clearly show that vaccination sharply reduces the risk of serious illness. The vast majority of local cases (more than 98 per cent) have mild or no symptoms. Only 2 per cent or less developed more serious illness. Of these, 0.2 per cent died or needed ICU treatment - just two out of every one thousand cases. ”

So it is referring to vaccinated. I read it as 0.2 percent need ICU or die, but it is 0.2% of the 2% that get badly sick so that could change the equation.

My second jab is in a couple of days.

4 in 100,000 needing ICU or death

if fully vaccinated

according to PM of SG

Well we also legally had no choice, so there's that too.

according to PM of SG if fully vaccinated our ICU rate from covid is 1/3 of our suicide rate

but there's a lot of assumptions in this - assuming he's correct, assuming our population are the same, existing conditions / age are the same, health care provision the same, definition of covid death the same, etc

There are some mistatements and misconceptions above.

Singapore PM figure says 2% developed serious illness requiring hospital care. That is general hospital care requiring monitoring, care isolation and precautions etc. And, says of those, 0.2% required admission to Intensive Care Units within the hospital and/or died.

Singapore PM: Our data, as well as data from around the world, clearly show that vaccination sharply reduces the risk of serious illness. The vast majority of local cases (more than 98 per cent) have mild or no symptoms. Only 2 per cent or less developed more serious illness. Of these, 0.2 per cent died or needed ICU treatment - just two out of every one thousand cases.

Tell me then, if one would not protect themselves and others during a pandemic, unless forced by law, then what would you think of this person?

I personally would think this person is a selfish individual.

An interesting subreddit on this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/HermanCainAward/

The sad fact is, this award is still in the running for many New Zealanders.

The problem is when you have those selfish individuals running businesses who insist their staff must come to work, and without the income, people who have no choice have to keep getting up and going to work regardless.

Like yes, it's crappy behaviour, but if it keeps a roof over your head and your family depends on it for shelter and being to pay bills then you're probably going to have to go along with it. It's not a choice that I think many could reasonably make with total freedom, sadly.

The problem is some businesses that are not in this situation but lobby like hell, for greed. Also many of those took advantage of salary benefits paid for those exact situations.
