I'm glad that sounds like it's about to change.

All you have at the moment is an announcement of some announcements.

It's, at the very least, a nod to the fact that some of the things that we've been talking about giving greater clarity about the future.

No one has asked Ardern to snap her fingers and make the virus go away, but short of that, we've been in the dark about the way forward - we've got a better idea of how home isolation and the future of MIQ is going to work than the roadmap for dealing with the problems within our own borders.

I'm glad that sounds like it's about to change.

With "sounds" being the key word here. Why couldn't the roadmap be given yesterday? Why couldn't we at least give people a little per certainty yesterday?

The only thing being eliminated right now is the mental health and soul of everybody in Auckland.

Per Ardern, it's not ready yet. Supposedly after working on it a while, it will be ready Friday.

I thought this was amusing given her comment that it was unfair to leave Aucklanders living week-by-week, only to then extend for another two weeks.

Oh, okay then. From the Herald:

Ardern told the AM Show this morning that they were all working towards all restaurants and bars being open by Christmas.

[...]

Her advice to those in Auckland wouldn't necessarily be not to book flights or accommodation for Christmas yet. Ardern said they were trying to balance the need of families to be reconnected with the rest of the country, while ensuring the rest of the country was kept safe during a pandemic.

Some of the options they were thinking about were whether people could cross the Auckland border if they had two jabs and a negative test.

So.... in other words, you're not going away for New Years without a double jab AND a negative test; which naturally a huge chunk of people will be rushing to get at the same time, in the lead up to Xmas, or in the days before New Years Even when everyone travels to get where they usually spend New Years.

It doesn't sound promising if that's the best option they've got on the table as a 'maybe'.

there's a lot in here. everything that we've called for the last 2-3 months.

though nothing's been announced, so it could be a while or it could be friday.

After 3 months of watching the outbreak with zero tolerance we are now starting to make some plans

It was an announcement of a plan to release a plan.  Agreed, absolutely ridiculous. You can see the screws tightening every day now on the government.  Elimination made the health system look good [not having to do anything], now its go time, we can all see it for what it really is - underfunded and inefficient

How is it that with the first outbreak last year the messages from the Government were reasonably clear and consistent delivered by the same people every day. Everybody knew the targets and what was expected and what we were aiming for.

This time round the approach could not be more different. The messages are confused and constantly changing delivered by different people every day it seems. Who could possibly have thought that introducing sub-levels like 3.1, 3.2 etc was a good idea. They just confuse the message especially when 3.1 sounds higher therefore tougher than 3 but is actually easier.

Message wise, abandoning elimination was a mistake even if, in practice it was not achievable. Zero is a target understood by everyone.

But now we don't seem to have any generally accepted target. I'm reasonably clued up on what is happening but I have no idea even what our vaccination targets are.

Whether it is "ready" on Friday is not really the point- even when we get to Friday  it wont be  fully explained and there will still be huge gaps in it

Will the government provide legal protection for businesses to voluntarily decide to exclude non vaxxed customers or staff.... ?? I suspect they will get told to work it out themselves...

Also this "traffic light plan" if for the "future" .. It can't happen until digital vaccine certificates are available, which the Moh won't happen until the "end of November"

+ there will be the vaccine targets which I', presuming will be 95% first and 90% fully ( + there will have to be Maori Targets as well)

So Auckland have at least another 6 weeks of having no future.... where cases will rise and freedoms will remain limited to picnics... but the number of flouters and rule breakers will increase ....

This is a huge burden for them to bear, it will see businesses simply give up,  and many people suffer major mental health issues, Education, especially in poor marginalised communities will be irreparably damaged...  and generally people will start to feel really $hit

I thought the only thing PM said about the rate was "very high target"

Please give even one official reference for this. I can find multiple reports of different people quoting different figures, full vs partial vaccination, and timeframes.

Cant miss a target if you dont set one in the first place.

I think we're getting a target in the Friday announcement.

90 is what NZME come up with. There has been no official announcement or similar notations from official bodies.

Other than they supported NZMEs independent efforts to spark it up on their platforms.
