“We are expecting to be starting booster shots, assuming that’s where the science lands up, this side of Christmas, so this year.”

Do we have different science from the rest of the world? Where boosters are already in arms?

Science is a convenient term. Remember US surgeon general at the start saying don't wear masks there is no evidence, science, etc etc, later US surgeon general says wear masks, science says etc etc. Look at what happened to the world since.

Anyway friends in 3rd world Asia getting booster Pfizer shots :)

From memory the FDA approved boosters for some, not all people.
So you would have to say the science in not all in yet for 'boosters galore'.
Anyway I suspect some people in NZ will be happier if we use our own countries approvals process.

Saying this bring on my booster.

Wasn't this also the opinion of NZs own ministry of health last year for quite a long time?  That masks weren't going to help and people should instead wash their hands etc.

Probably not high enough, I know a few people in that age group who haven't had it. But the current outbreak is mainly hitting younger people and demographics with lower vaccination rates. Age is probably one reason it hasn't resulted in a high number of hospitalizations yet, and it maybe giving people a false sense of security.

That's my feel too. If the vulnerable demographic was well vaccinated, low or no deaths. Plus of course if you are young, its no issue..... I know many with that mindset. They seem to be fixed on themselves rather than of others, unless they have no relative/friends over 40??  :-)  Everybody has contact with older people in everyday life, even those they dont know at the frozen foods section in the supermarket. Quite selfish, but its probably cool and trendy as well perhaps

I am watching with great interest at what is happening in the UK at the moment, as they are apparently considered the most open in the world at living with the virus and have pretty high vaccination rates. Have family members who have had covid at least once, it is circuiting in the schools and over 50% of school children have apparently had it. Looks like they could be going into plan B in the winter to reduce the load on health services. THis is why I can't believe that National want to get rid of all restrictions an dlevels, when some form of traffic light system is obviously going to be needed to control spread if it gets out of control long term

Any update with vaccinations for kids yet? Last I heard this was being trialled/tested/awaiting approval, etc.

Us and Canada looking at Pfizer's application, so I'm guessing if /when they are approved we'd approve it here too.

Our "booster" program was first announced yesterday when they launched 3rd jabs for those who are immunocompromised. Bloomfield made the clear distinction yesterday between a 3rd jab and a booster and made it very clear however that they are not boosters.

To give a booster requires a lot of changes to the approval of the vaccine which will take time. If only we'd started on this two months ago when National were calling for this with urgency.

Even earlier this year Bloomfield wasn't sold on masks https://www.newsroom.co.nz/bloomfield-opposed-nationwide-masks-mandate

Radio NZ - Man charged and taken into custody over breaching level 3 rules at Auckland event

"A 63-year-old man has been charged in relation to an event at the Auckland Domain that breached the alert level 3 rules, and that was attended by Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki."

Tamaki's birthday was 2 February 1958.  😉

Stuff is being a little less 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge' about it:

Interviewer: "Are you vaccinated Brian?"
* Tamaki ends the interview and walks away

Yeah, I think we all know the answer.

His sign was circulating on social media last night '**** Brian Tamaki and his prosperity doctrine' or words to that effect.

But old m8 is almost certainly vaccinated.

I didn't see a lot of support for him on Facebook - maybe 1 post in 10 saying he was doing the right thing. Overwhelmingly everyone else was unimpressed, so I dunno why he thinks he speaks for New Zealand (he certainly doesn't speak for me).

I have personally discovered a few antivax social media forwarders who are actually vaccinated. True story

:( yes I know these people personally. Have told them to stop posting. But the damage... They think it's funny.
