A reasonable article on why retiring/removing the term "anti-vaxx" may help with mental health, social division  and allowing vaccine hesitant to accept getting the vaccine

Should we retire the term 'anti-vaxxer'?

MikeB4: The references to folks religion for example are being couched in hate speech styles for example.

If you're referring to my post. I have 0 issue with religion. I just hate how people use it as an excuse to do the dumbest of things including bigotry, being anti vaxx and also to deny ordinary people who just want to get on with things.

I also failed to mention that this brother I was talking about has kids. One of their kids has in the past mention the exact same abhorrent messaging that's going on that vaccines dont work and I'm blaming it entirely on the brother(the kids father).

Hate speech is the very last thing I wish to do but my post wasn't one. Now that you have all of this information I hope you understand.

I don't think he was specifically referring to your past

Geektastic: "Police have condemned a planned hīkoi or march from Rotorua to Northland which is believed to be making its way towards Auckland this evening."

Never mind condemning it. Arrest them! Enough already.

The Police stopped them at the border

Police block protesters as hīkoi arrives at Auckland border

Members of a hīkoi hoping to get to Northland planned to spend the night camped out on the side of the road after police refused to let them through Auckland's southern border.

Dozens of cars arrived at the Mercer checkpoint just on midnight, despite police earlier warning that no one would be allowed through the border without an exemption.

"We are strongly advising those who intend to take part in this that any travel across the Auckland boundary that is not specifically permitted by the health order requires an exemption," police said in a statement.

That didn't stop members of the self-proclaimed Sovereign Hīkoi of Truth (SHOT) movement from leaving Rotorua at 6pm with the aim of travelling through Auckland and heading north to Te Tii o Waitangi for a pōwhiri at midday today.

The Hikoi appears to be against the measures the government has been taking to assist in managing the Covid outbreak

For those who will lose their jobs due to the vaccine mandates, Ardern says: "Your ability to access government support, and your ability to access for, e.g., an unemployment benefit or to seek support in finding new employment is not, and will not be affected by your vaccination status."

as i have said many times before - the dole looks tempting

I think the dole looks much less tempting once you work out how little the dole pays - the Jobseeker single rate is $315 a week.
That's the equivalent of working less than 20 hours/week at the current adult minimum rate, so someone in even a low-paid job, let alone a teacher or nurse, is hardly going to find that attractive.

Also, if you are deemed to have quit your job voluntarily, there may be an up to 13 week stand-down period before you start receiving dole payments. I think that would be the situation here.

It’s a fairly ridiculous statement. A fully incremented primary teacher would be taking a $1200 a week pay cut on the benefit.

Similarly tying benefits to vaccinations would be stupid.

Good job, pointless waste of time anyway. Even some Iwi are saying it's pointless.

I don’t believe it’s supported by any iwi. It’s anti vaxxers/anti lockdown types trying to use Māori imagery to present a veneer of credibility.

The Prime Minister stated very clearly yesterday that the government is not about stopping access to the basics of life for those making a personal choice. Access to income support is a basic of life and I am not sure the statutory standowns prescribed by the act would or could be applied in this scenario.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It's also a massive waste of public money having to resource the police presence to deal with it. Send the organisers the bill.

It would come down to the wording of the termination of employment I suspect. If someone chose to resign, giving their normal notice then I suspect the stand down would apply, but the way the Govt worded the statement yesterday, the notice was issued by the employer, hence a "firing / termination of employment" and the stand down wouldn't apply (so don't jump, get pushed).

Someone did their homework. Calling the group that did the march/protest the same as the marketing used for the jab in media etc currently 'shot'

It is good to see that the police have stood their ground rather than just letting them through and “ticketing” them later.

Hopefully the organisers will not get any stupid ideas like pushing through the checkpoint on foot. On one hand, unlikely as the punters have travelled up in cars but that would be an escalation that would further test the resolve of the police.

Hate double posting but based on some of the protesters terminology (eg. Common law travel documentation), I’m inclined to believe that at least some of them prescribe to the sovereign citizen movement.
