I'm surprised that people leaving Auckland on travel exemptions aren't required to be vaccinated.

It's impossible. Until the vaccine passport system rolls out at the end of November there is no way to prove this.

The Newsroom story this morning is pretty scathing when it comes to our preparation for Delta. If only we hadn't spent 16 months telling the rest of the world how we bet Covid and won.

You have been able to get the vaccination letter, I applied and got one.

Easily forged true, but apply a large penalty to doing so, and you would get a level of dissuasion to forge.
A level of satisfaction for community that those causing the damage to business and economy partly pay.

Businesses that don't support the community, also pay and don't get to cross the border in future.

The vaccination letter is not a vaccine passport. It primary use at present is for people who need proof of vaccination for international travel or work overseas and is still taking a couple of weeks to arrive.

With the thousands of people passing through our L3/L2 borders every day the backlog that would be created processing all of these (which is done manually) would be a huge bottleneck.

We really should have been working on a vaccine passport system earlier, but until this launches at the end of Nov there isn't much we can do to mandate vaccination for crossing borders, or mandate vaccination for domestic flights.

A correction for you to that. It is if it is required for work. Not overseas work only. For example providing proof to your employer for occupations that are mandated to have vaccinations.

i would see that as the primary use at the moment tbh.

Shots if we hear 'an abundance of caution' today? (which will ultimately be attached to a, 'we don't know exact movements so need to 3 for time to back trace')

There has been flip flops all day on would he/wouldn't he, with Herald initially saying not off the cards, then changing to ruled out from the AM show interview, to 'considering a lockdown' now back to 'will we see if a snap level 3 is announced - click here to find out'

The 1200 release been and gone. Mostly bus routes in AKL

/edit, they have now revised that and released another statement release schedule for 2PM for the CHC cases.

"Christchurch will remain in alert level 2."

Auckland stays in eternal lockdown but apparently in Chch you can have Covid and do whatever for over a week and it's totally fine.

The business I work for asked if I would share my vaccination status and I would be happy to provide the letter as our clients have already asked for this to allow face to face meetings.

And it arrived via email less than 24 hours after my request - on a Saturday no less. It doesn't take a couple of weeks to arrive.

Thats very bizarre. I'd have bet a bunch on L3. Unless they are hermits or were too sick so never went anywhere

It used to. Had a panicky call to them before I boarded a flight a few weeks ago because the letter had not arrived. They were very good at sorting it out though.

It's also for domestic use. I got mine by email within 24 hours three weeks ago.

2pm apparently for Chch.

If what I'm seeing on Twitter is correct then one of the cases is an unvaccinated truck driver who has traveled across the region, yet they can stay in L2.

This will torch whatever interested I had in supporting the lockdown in Auckland.

Not until 2pm. People didn't make it easy by not scanning.

I get that but while Im also surprised, if the LOI's are very low and the risk profile was low, it may be a storm in a tea cup. If there are a comparatively large number if LOI's I'll be a bit dumbfounded. I was expecting at least 5 days of L3 "just to be sure"

In any case its obviously not anti Auckland thing, its a risk thing.

I'm really surprised at staying in L2

Northland - 1 case, straight to L3

Waikato - 1 case, straight to L3

Auckland - lots of cases, stay in L3

Chch, 2 cases - she'll be right, stay in L2

As pleased as I am that we are stying in L2, it just completely mixes up the messaging. Yes, our vaccination rates are okay (up and down across the region as is everywhere) but it does make a bit of a mockery of their earlier decisions.
