Oblivian:
If they oppsied and said the waste water in a few district went positive as did a case being investigated, later to go oops.. got it wrong. Would probably bring 3 days of push needed.
Yep, best way to get the most intelligent species to comply with vaccines is to make up a story to lead them to the trough. Unreal. Worse still, they get the first jab so are not really getting the protection they need now, for weeks. In other life things, people plan ahead!
Also starting to think we've made a serious misstep with the communications around the Auckland border.
The idea that Auckland has to stay locked down because Covid is there and not where you are, plus then when Auckland is vaccinated they're going to be stuck because rest of NZ rates aren't high enough means there's no urgent call to action for the rest of NZ. Either way, it can be written off as an Auckland problem.
"The Aucklanders are coming, they might bring Covid with them even if they're vaccinated" at least puts a sense of urgency around it - given that there's a high likelihood this is going to be the end result either way.
Good grief people there is such poor attitude here. Good way to start and perpetuate an us and them attitude and its of no value to problem what so ever. Get a grip. I am out of this discussion.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
MileHighKiwi: It was very refreshing watching the rugby in Wales today. Despite the 'highest rate of covid in the UK' (2.5k per day), more than 71% of the population are vaccinated and 74,500 people packed into the stadium to support their team and sing their hearts out. Shots of people in the street going about their business.
I was then lucky enough to catch Man Utd beat Spurs in London in a full house.
Life goes on.
Makes me sadder for Aucklanders. 11 weeks of purgatory and conting, what a disaster.
All very well when they have this in place

Do I need COVID-19 certification to attend a match?
Every fan over the age of 18 attending Premier League fixtures should be able to show their NHS COVID Pass or other proof of full vaccination, or a negative COVID test taken within the previous 48 hours – as close to matchday as possible, as a condition of entry.
All clubs will conduct spot checks and have the authority to refuse entry to the ground if a supporter does not provide the necessary COVID-19 status evidence.
Same in Italy. My family owns a resturant there and proof of full vax is required to eat there.

That attitude started at the top last week

I just dont get why some areas or demographics are lagging so much, vaccine centres are everywhere

The age data is a few days behind but people in their 20s are lagging... maybe if they were offered more Insta followers or something.

Some days you look at being an MP in cabinet and think 'they've made a dumb decision, I would have done things differently' but this one is a legitimate head scratcher. There's no easy win here.
But it is a series of mis-steps and poor communication from the Government that has put them in this bind. Self inflicted IMO.
It didn't need to be this way and wasn't first time round. They seem to have completely forgotten all the good things they did then ie clear messaging and plans, go hard/go early etc.

Id think after 18+ months the message would be well and truly known by the masses. Media coverage has been daily, there are no secrets, and daily people are told to get vaccinated. If there are alert levels, that's no secret. Some people this time around have chosen not to bother

Over-Heard a video someone was watching from UK broadcasting last week looking at the NZ responce in the face of increased cases. They shed light that while AKL was still limited, as was the rest in some respect that the road had changed but not the mantra. With the 90% target still being lumped into the 'go hard' bin. While the 1 case was still 'early'

Yup, and many of the vaccinated and compliant are starting to wonder what over the next month is going to change that, and why our lives should be on hold so they can dither and possibly still leave us in the lurch.
