Vaccination pass.

I hear reports that Cafe, Restaurants and Bars say they can 'safely' open in Auckland with no risk, Right Now !
I also hear from same, that they don't want to enforce vaccination passes, unfair burden ?

Seems they are going for bigger places and events that can support extra security staff ?
Getting the young mobile crowd incentive to vaccinate, which includes lots of Maori is the critical point.
Its our lowest vaccinated, point of greatest vulnerability. Then they spread to Grandma.

So what will get young vaccinating, passes to go to housie won't up the young vaccination rate.

Oh Northland.
People with little contact with health services lack trusted advice, so unsocial media fills the gaps.

I am wondering if the coverage of the rates at the rest home in Auckland is working in favour. Or we just see Delta targeting differently

Last year with no protection, a few days after rosewood had its first case the mortality rate started. This time, 2 hospitalisations, but thus far no bad news as a result. Touch wood.

With our Hospitals under pressure but not yet over-run they will get a high standard of care.
I understand that not all residents were vaccinated though.

Singapore still has 68,000 Seniors who did not get vaccinated, and this is what they are finding.

About 60 unvaccinated seniors get Covid-19 every day, six likely to end up in ICU

He described how Covid-19 continues to affect the unvaccinated disproportionately, especially the elderly.

Furthermore, the unvaccinated are more at risk of getting reinfected. Up till mid-August, there were 32 reinfection cases and all of them were unvaccinated, he said in a ministerial statement, where he gave an update on the capacity of hospitals and intensive care units (ICUs) here.

"The risks of being unvaccinated are high. Compared to the vaccinated, someone who is 60 years old and above and unvaccinated is six times more likely to need oxygen, eight times more likely to become critically ill and need the ICU, and 17 times more likely to die."

Geektastic: Things are going to get inconvenient for the unvaccinated soon.

I suspect trains, buses, taxis, aircraft etc will become the domain of the vaccinated only.

Yep, Just wondering how a taxi/uber driver going to check a vaccine cert is legit. Or will some even bother if its hassle.

Depends who they work for and whether there are penalties for not checking I guess.

I've seen community comment (and I think a press story too) of people basically saying 'I won't be getting a 2nd one!'

Presumably thinking 1 is enough, or claiming some form of feeling after the fact outside the standard reactions and blaming the jab as cause. (No doubt without logging it with the appropriate methods of reporting adverse effects or seeking medical advise.)

One of them claimed they had random stomach pains, acute numbness down one side, chest issues and noone knew why.. However went quiet when asked if they had reported it. That spurred all sorts of 'the media don't report the bad reactions and deaths anyway' fail train.

The flip side of the reporting that I've seen first hand are the Doctors that discount any medical issues following the jab as "that couldn't possibly be related". But when you actually look at the listed common/uncommon/rare side effects, the symptoms being reported fall squarely into the 'these should be reported' category. I actually wonder if this may be leading to underreporting as Doctors don't want to be labeled anti-vax, even though it could be putting the patient at risk.

That's what has happened now, just think it should have been done by the doctors, especially as they state they prefer reporting by doctors.

With regards to projections of when we hit 90% of eligible double dosed, 1 news has published key number with regards to the timing of take rates of second doses.

Great news is that they are improving. They currently stand at:

  • 97.5% by 6 weeks
  • 98.9% by 8 weeks
  • 99.6% by 10 weeks.

Pretty good in my book.

However does mean all those models (like the stuff one) that do a linear projection of first dose rates, to estimate when the region hits 90% fully vaccinated, then add 3 weeks will be way off.

They should be projecting to 92.3% of the DHB first dosed, then adding 6 weeks... or whichever of the three data point gives the quickest outcome. (92.3% * 97.5% = 90% double dose)

www.1news.co.nz/2021/11/02/kiwis-receiving-second-covid-19-vaccine-dose-trends-up/

But of course I think we will be going to the traffic light system as soon as the cert system is ready, so not that much value in projecting. - The late November review of vaccination rates is already scheduled - pritty likely they will just spin the results positive (i.e. every DHB over 90% first dose, so just a matter of those people getting second doses), and roll out the traffic lights...

Commentary online is that:

PM handled the situation really well:

  • Stayed calm and didn't engage.
  • Made it clear that the conference was for accredited press and was being disrupted.
  • Took back control by moving the event to a secure location.

Despite this:

The person doing the heckling was part of a far right, conspiracy news platform. They will likely view this as a win.

I imagine headlines along the lines of: "[extreme political term] Prime Minister shuts down press conference when hard questions are asked"
