Except how much checking of passes is going to be done, when places only apparently need to do a 'reasonable' number of spot checks .  It is largely an honour system.

Maccas Moorehouse had signs up about vax pass, but ordered at the kiosk, and collected from the counter, not requested to show it at all. To be fair, they are behind a screen and it was contactless. Boss went to small lunch bar, had to show pass.

I suspect staff and customers will soon settle into a routine.

Disappointing but not surprising.

This is pretty ridiculous too, given it's probably the only shop there.

I checked that jobs site just now and there's not even 50 vacancies there. Hardly going to be picking up much slack from holdouts who lose their jobs.

Yes the BioNTech CEO has a slightly different message.

‘Don’t freak out’ about Omicron, says BioNTech CEO
In an interview with the WSJ, BioNTech chief Ugur Sahin said that while Omicron may infect more vaccinated people, they will likely remain protected against severe illness.
https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2021/11/30/dont-freak-out-about-omicron-says-biontech-ceo

Yes, but its a minefield of "what suits me"

Africa vs non Africa  Why is Africa being banned when its everywhere else?

Labour vs National  Why have red traffic light when it should be green now?

Drug companies.  We have it under control, buy ours.

Travellers   Open up its fine

Coffee shops/Tourist outlets  Open up its fine

Labour vs MoH  Scan frequently vs scan and verify ALL of them

and the list goes on

A dollar each way. Who would you report this too? Police? MoH?

Except how much checking of passes is going to be done, when places only apparently need to do a 'reasonable' number of spot checks .  It is largely an honour system. In Germany they are getting really tough on the unvaxxed, and the WHO seem to be encouraging compulsory vaccination which I guess is only a matter of time. PLus it looks like boosters will be annual, based on the CEO of Pfizer interview. .

I can see using the app to verify passes being something that lasts a week or so before people tire of it and just visually check them. The fact the govt backtracked and doesn't require verification means there is very little point in businesses going to the extra length when there are zero benefits for them.

Today's numbers were a bit of a shock. A good shock. Auckland is well on top of cases, long may it continue. We are really in a holding pattern till we cover kids. Thereafter anything is possible including spells without the virus. Fiji have eradicated it temporarily with their ninety six percent of the eligible population vaccination rate.

I am not saying that we can eliminate it, as we all know it just keeps coming. But very low numbers and tight containment are within reach come the end of the first quarter of next year.

Depending of course on what Omicron does, Delta is already yesterdays outbreak, but we should anticipate vaccine compliance to continue to climb, slowly and steadily as people become conditioned to Covid vaccines to the point where they become a norm.

That will be greatly impacted on by how long the third shot lasts. The longer the better.

There's a big difference between weather and climate. Wait a week to see if the trend continues, particularly since today was let-er-rip day for Auckland.

The local Subway had notices up indicating that vaccine passes were required. However the check was a verbal question, no sighting, no checking. Folks who answered no were asked to leave and they weren't happy campers.  I think it won't last a couple of days. They'll have the signs to comply with the regulations but enforcement will just be put in a 'too hard' basket... which is in line with our/our governments attitude towards effective Covid responses.

Indeed. There is a latency effect and there are also some anecdotical takeaways from the US: when the weather forces folks indoors (eg. too hot, need AC. Too cold, stay indoors) rather than outdoors, covid has an easier time spreading.

Yet our two local Subways are doing contactless as they don't want to divide NZ so they have decided it is easier to treat everyone the same and order online or at a table at the door.

If you don’t think NZ has an effective Covid response don’t look elsewhere.

BK belfast, drive through only. Kfc rolleston. Drive through only. Sectioned off the entrances.

Be easier to section off all the seats and become takeaway only. Get your stuff and go

Fiji pretty much dispelled the anecdotes about climate and population size, they had a sustained Delta outbreak that for a period was the worst per capita in the world.

India is pretty hot. They created Delta.

There is a seasonal aspect to Covid in colder climates that is true, people congregate indoors.

Agree on waiting to see the impact of loosening things up a bit. I think we might see a climb till the end of January when kids vaccines kick in and boosters are adding an even stronger overlap of immunity to the ecosystem.

But based off the story of this outbreak it largely relies on the unvaccinated steadily coming forward and joining the vaccine wall.
