Again NZ is late to the party. The Covid party. Holding off for as long as we could, continues to pay dividends. While others are seeing cases magnify due to lower vaccinations rates, and loose restrictions, ours is well up, and aside from the Auckland outbreak, we are now working towards a high total population vaccination rate when 5-11 commences. And boosters. And Covid is being controlled. Cross fingers, when we can't control it, most of our ducks will be lined up.

For some good news. We have about 2.5M vaccine doses in storage available for distribution.

My 6 months after second dose came up late in November (was jabbed ahead of my age band due to association with MIQ worker - Military) and I was going to wait an extra month or two for the booster to more closely align to others that I cross paths with at work, but because the 5 - 11 year olds will hopefully be starting in January I thought better to just sort it now while there is plenty of capacity at the vax centres, and not be in their way then.

Had the booster last Saturday. Bit of a sore arm for a day but no headache this time

Good decision. Friends and family of mine, because of my health background, asked me about the spacing of shot one and two.

The reason for their indecision, was the emerging evidence from the UK at the time, that a longer than three week interval was better.

These types of questions should always be weighed in the light of context.

So, if you are a fan of an extended gap, then the time to apply that logic, is when there is zero Covid in the community.

Because to put it simply, when you have Covid in your country, it is a dumb idea to wait.

It is especially a dumb idea if you live in a country that has very little issue with providing on going top ups.

Holding off on a shot, and landing in hospital with Covid, is not worth any idealistic time interval you might have in your mind.

Heaven forbid someone ends up dead for the sake of trying to reach some clinical therapeutic Nirvana with their own scheduling...to me that is a fail of epic proportions...epitaph time 'here lies a guy that tried to avoid Covid to suit a perfect envelope'.

None of us would go into a war with less bullets if this means a likelihood of more ammunition in six months time,....

Pretty much.

Once Omicron hits we lose all of that advantage and we see an all consuming bush fire that blows away all our systems and catches us up with the rest of the world inside four week.s

When these losers who are trying to bring a January 6th attempted coup to this country get Omicron it will spread to us all. I hope there is some penalty for that bio terrorism assault of the innocents.

Got mine booked for 28th.

Until then I'm limiting any social activity.

All I had for shots 1 & 2 was a sore arm. The first was about 6 days, the second about 4. The booster knocked me down though. About 12 hours after getting it I felt like I had a bad fever and ended up in bed for around 30 hours with bad muscle aches all over. Wife was out of it for almost 3 days.

I had mine last week and got smashed by it.

It was good that you made the call to get it because after 6 months like me you basically had pretty minimal protection.

i get migraines, so I was pleased to find I had one with each shot. I got the sore arm but nothing to write home about, more like a deltoid strain from doing dumbbell flies at the gym with a weight that suited my ego rather than my cold inactive muscles.

I had brief periods where I felt spaced out, had some odd flushes, and had to go to sleep a couple of times, not because I was sleepy, but because of an overwhelming wave of fatigue.

Shot one I took paracetamol after two days of being staunch, my symptoms evaporated.

Second shot I took panadol after eight hours of being brave and well...all symptoms dissipated withing an hour and remained so.

Shot three as soon as I feel twitchy I will pop the pills.

Had my booster shot last Saturday, like the first shot, I ended up with a sore arm which went into the next day.

Work wanted the "at risk" workers that are vaccinated to return to work. I got a med certificate from my Doctor stating that due to a lengthy stay in ICU last year and long standing health complications, I will return to work when the booster reaches peak protection in 2 weeks time.

I am in no great rush to go back to work, we have had 5 staff members catch covid over the last few months, I now feel a hell of a lot better at being protected.

That is simply not going to work now, the public are over lock downs and the Govt has sold everybody on two jabs to live a normal life.

I'm not seeing that, articles today say him and some others are talking about restricting travel into NZ, not lockdowns. Dr A says lockdowns can't be ruled out. Which will be all about hospital beds I imagine

There was an interview with him on RNZ. Even Guyon Espiner was telling him he was dreaming if he thought lockdowns would be accepted by the general population.

If the govt backtracks on it's January opening they are going to have a truly massive problem on their hands because there are literally thousands and thousands of NZers who have headed or will be heading to to Aussie for Xmas to come back for home quarantine in time for school restarting.

The govt promised us all normality was here if we were double jabbed. Yes a new variant has arrived and the game has changed but people are already having to deal with the summer we've been promised has been cancelled already, and further travel and border restrictions are not going to go down well.
