Batman:
boss level here i come
Assuming you survive it of course.
A friend of mine from Europe is currently on holiday in South Africa and he was telling me how great it was there: no vaccine pass, no masking, "no covid bs" (this was without me prompting him, by the way). He then said he had it 4 weeks ago and "it was a joke...nothing", calling it "Government/big pharma bs", saying Jacinda was a dumbarse (I'm being polite here) and "part of the whole thing".
He then said he had to go to bed.
I guess while I'm disappointed he thinks like that (his partner is the same), my take on it is I think it would be great if everyone had the same experience with coronavirus as him, ie, it barely affects you at all.
Sadly this isn't the case, and a number of people get quite sick from it. Some even die from it.
Oh well, I guess he won't be coming back to NZ for a while given he's totally unvaccinated. Depressing, really as he's a very good friend of mine. I guess I just need to learn to "separate the artist from the art".

What peak? What if there's a "Pi" after this one? Everyone seems to be thinking this is the last we've seen of it. I'd rather think "we should be prepared to see worst".
I don't really understand the "it's no big deal" people. Personally I actually don't want any illness, no matter how mild it might be (especially if it might be acute too).

Swine Flu kicked my ass, it took me months to recover my personal fitness to the level it was before and I'm not even sure I really ever hit the same levels of endurance.
The bits of Covid you can see and feel might be mild, but people are taking a big gamble that long covid won't happen to them.

On a side note, I was genuinely shocked to to hear how many people in my friend group didn't know/remember the Swine Flu 2009 outbreak. Out of ~10 people I was the only one to remember, 19 deaths and a few thousand cases, panic buying of Tamiflu yet it seems to largely be gone from peoples minds

As an aside, we've had a run of extremely mild winters lately too.

I don’t want to live in constant fear of what might happen.
My understanding is that mutations and variants of viruses usually get weaker (but not always), but are often more easily transmissible.
We could live in fear of the next variant, or live in fear of the next unrelated pandemic. But where does it stop?
I understand it’s about hospital beds, so I’m annoyed the Government hasn’t used the last two years to increase capacity. Staffing is the biggest issue, and the could easily have been fast tracking immigration of healthcare workers this whole time.
This, we should be preparing for the worst, but not worrying about it at all. You can't control whether it mutates, gets more potent, or that another virus will come along. If that's the case, then there is no point in considering it in your concerns. It will just detract from your mental health.
What needs to happen, is as citizens, need to make clear to our politicians, that the preparedness of our nation has been insufficient and that is totally unacceptable.

Omicron has always been described by the experts as 'milder' than delta and previous variants. But the experts have said that it can still be a killer. It is the media that have jumped on this and have changed the narrative to it being mild. The original Covid varients were also mild to some people, but it doesn't mean it is a mild illness to many.

Flu this year will be a B*tch... lots of international movement, a population with little immunity to recent strains... If people are wavering... Get a Flu shot this year....
quickymart:
I'm boosted as of this afternoon. My arm is a bit sore for now, but at least it's done.
Wow, that didn't last long. I feel like I've been hit by a bus today :(
How long should this last?

Yep I'm drinking plenty of fluids and trying my best to rest. I kinda wish I'd done this on a Thursday though and taken Friday off to recover, but ah well.
intensive training camp for T cells
Feeling a bit better this morning, long may it continue/last 😃
