@Rikkitic:
Speaking of which, what is a good source of non-fake N95 masks in NZ? Not big lots, just individual purchase.

P2 respirator is “close enough” to N95 and placemakers stock good 3M ones for around $70 for 25. My local has smaller packs too, but I got these in January and I’m still going thru them.

Eva888: If it helps calm a few people that are super worried about getting Covid, all of the ones at the wedding we went to that got covid had mild symptoms and many of them were older and classed as high risk because of comorbidities. It certainly helped reduce the fear and most felt relieved they had caught it and were now over it. A few of these people have terminal conditions and are now back to their own normal again.
i know a 93 year old who had it, lived alone, and once isolation ended was back using public transport to go everywhere
Individual anecdotes make nice sound bites but they don't really mean anything. I was a very heavy smoker for more than forty years and at 77 I still don't have lung cancer. So what?

This could make a difference:
Radio NZ - Rapid LAMP Covid tests trial to begin in New Zealand
breaking
The government is trialling a new form of Covid-19 test, which it says combines the accuracy of PCR tests with the speed of RATs.
The tests are called LAMPs - which stands for Loop Mediated Isothermal Amplification. They are self-administered and give results with 30 minutes.
The company says they are 98 percent as accurate as high sensitivity PCR tests, but in a fraction of the time.

Oh that's nice.
But it still does nasal swaps and those are very uncomfortable for me :(

I also wear spectacles, but they don't get tangled with the mask.
I manage to tangle my glasses in my mask several times a day. 😆

It's either the arms of my glasses or my RiC hearing aids. One or both of them will get tangled every time if it's a surgical mask. No issues with N95 masks that loop behind the head instead of the ears. The trouble is, wearing n95s is like wearing scuba goggles - the pressure and seal is immense on your face.
Covid's toll in U.S. reaches 1 million deaths, a once unfathomable number (nbcnews.com)
The United States on Wednesday surpassed 1 million Covid-19 deaths, according to data compiled by NBC News — a once unthinkable scale of loss even for the country with the world's highest recorded toll from the virus.
The number — equivalent to the population of San Jose, California, the 10th largest city in the U.S. — was reached at stunning speed: 27 months after the country confirmed its first case of the virus.
While deaths from Covid have slowed in recent weeks, about 360 people have still been dying every day.
In a distant second is Brazil, which has recorded just over 660,000 confirmed Covid deaths.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
