Speaking of which, what is a good source of non-fake N95 masks in NZ? Not big lots, just individual purchase.

What with RAT test being handed out freely these days, I am surprised that n95 masks are not being issued free of charge, at least to at risk people?

That would just be common sense. I think N95 masks are probably the main tool at the moment for  slowing down the spread.

on another note, no posts = good thing, hopefully the world continue on this dying down trajectory. but if only we had a crystal ball.

if you were wondering about rates of infection in vaccinated vs unvaccinated don't bother wondering you won't know.

last week a group of relatives stayed over the weekend. one of them was coughing like crazy and looked sick as a dog.

then i thought hmm have you tested for covid - no it's just the flu i have the flu all the time, it's not covid.

then i asked are you vaccinated for covid - @#$%^&* why would i do that

oh sheeeeeet ...

I just left the dining table and went to my room

next morning said person i think got the message and left first thing in the morning.

TLDR

1. they don't test so you will never know the rates

2. they don't seem to be dying like flies (anyone still following MOH all cause mortality who knows what they die of raw data?

3. logic: no it's not covid it's the flu. umm but they said covid is like the flu. no?

Unbelievable!

And "it's just the flu" ??? Say WHAT?

The flu is a very nasty and unpleasant ailment. How could anyone say "it's just the flu" and subject others to risk of catching it? I would have told this relative to leave immediately, or at the very least be confined to quarters. With rellies like this, who needs enemies?

because many people who get a common cold think it's the flu and have never had the flu that kills 500 people a year in NZ, my wife has had the Flu , it put her in hospital for 2 weeks, i have never had a cold that has done that.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Self reporting case number stats are pretty much worthless,  I only look at hospitalisation data.....

It's becoming clear that people are not testing, and/or not isolating if they are a Household contact..

There is pretty much nothing that can be done about any of this.... and I expect Orange to continue through Winter....

"Bloomfield said it was believed half of the actual cases out there were being reported - and some cases that weren't being reported could be because people didn't have symptoms, so weren't testing."

Influenza A in dunedin and queenstown. And 3% in the UK found can be hit with Covid simultaneously

And 'June' is on the cards for a potential 4th dose roll. Timed for the winter impacts Jun/Jul

It shows how important vaccination is how, and how much it actually works. If no one in North Korea is vaccinated and it is Omicron, then it also shows that Omicron is certainly not mild.

It looks like NZ has another wave occurring with rising hospital cases and reported cases. Mask use has dropped and some schools have dropped masks and now getting allot of cases again. I remember some experts saying that schools are going to be the reservoir for the virus and imo is only going to get worse over winter because windows can’t be left open due to the cold temperatures. Doesn’t seem many rooms in schools have hepa filters either. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-omicron-variant-watch-on-auckland-as-cases-rise/WJI4BR6ALC2NVPMDMH7BW2H7CA/

From my customers, it's always been the school kids taking them out. Thats a given.

School buses don't seem to require. Nor outside the class.

Like.. The times they sit together more and even cross open gobs hugging

Not so much a wave as a jump after the long weekends travel like some concerns were raised over, Coincidentally when levels changed and magically the switch was turned off and it didn't exist anymore so neither did the apparent need to avoid.

I saw former-newsreader-now-antivaxxer Liz Gunn outside the ferry terminal in Devonport today. She looks like's recovered from "what the Government sprayed on us during the protest" (too much lol), but holy crap she looks really haggard now; I suspect the disease really took a toll on her health. Fortunately she isn't posting much antivaxx bs on her page anymore. I was tempted to go up and say something but thought better of it.
