Countdown is not allowing people to buy more than 'two of anything'.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/120447139/countdown-introduces-limits-across-all-products-as-demand-surges

Reading the article, it doesn't apply to fruit and vegetables and deli counter.

Good I was going to ask you about grapes and peas...

It is  annoying. I know people would do  shopping for elderly family members at the same time they do their own shop, so it will affect the way they shop. Also if you have a big family, you will often buy more than 2 of any similar product. I also  live semirural, so tend to do big monthly shops in the city, so we always buy stuff in bulk so will meanwe have to visit the supermarket more which isn't a good thing. So it will mean a lot of people will now not be able to shop as they normally would. Maybe people saw restrictions  coming and that is why they were stocking up. But I can see that in this uncertain time it is needed.

How did they decide 14 days in self isolation is enough to make sure "you were safe" and has it been confirmed that if you have had the virus, that you are not still infectious or couldn't get the virus again.

Yeah. When I was a teenager, a "normal" weekly shop for the family involved 26 litres of milk, ten kilos of meat, and lord knows how much pasta and rice.

Yeah, we used to get through a loaf of bread a day. Boxes of weetbix and litres of milk etc.

The Gym I go to is closing all their Saunas.

I was having to go to hospital, and they were going to have to keep an eye on me.

Started going in Sauna 2 to 3 times a week and my health massively improved, believe it lowered blood pressure which they were going to give me drugs to do, but no longer necessarily.

It's won't cure an infected person and they should stay away, but should be hot enough to kill on Skin. Saunas also boost the immune system.

My membership ends in four weeks, glad I went for quitting and not signing a two year contract, I'd be screwed if have done that.

See the Saunas on council page still showing as operating Christchurch.

And yet during WW2 they had rationing and everyone was fine, strangely they didnt have the childhood/teenage obesity problems.

Therefore maybe we eat too much...

Don't want to encourage hoarding but there's literally two Countdown's across the street from each other in Johnsonville.

Seems like a silly rule . 6 x 1 liter water bottle package = one item?

The biggest benefit a wet sauna will do for your blood pressure is change the way you breathe - actually quite useful if you are taking up exercise from a low baseline. If I was injured, I always found breathing practice in the sauna helped massively when I started to get back into running. The problem is most people use it assuming it is good for long-term weightloss.

Same here. I'm not going to drive a half-hour to town to pick up five items. Don't see the benefit of repeated exposure to others, either.

- Yesterday Italy passed the Chinese numbers of fatalities.

- The Italian army takes the coffins of the deceased to the cemeteries of other places at night, as local capacities have collapsed.

- The young generation is so bored that they are unable to work alone at home and ignore all appeals to stay at home and continue to meet in groups. Incredible.

Around the same amount of people died from starvation as military deaths during WW2. Some was intentional(ie Germanys Hunger Plan) but most not.

another plus with the virus is that the Rental market might ease as the Airbnb market has pretty much collapsed, so if people want any money they will have to put them back on the rental market.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/elderly-care-homes-across-nz-block-all-non-essential-visitors-in-bid-combat-coronavirus

I guess it had to come, and it seems that retirement villages are doing the right thing:

In a statement Radius Care admitted the news would be distressing to some, but they are "taking this precaution to keep you loved ones safe and healthy."

The restrictions also apply to family members and friends who are only allowed to visit loved ones "in the most urgent of circumstances."

New Zealand’s largest retirement village operator Ryman Health Care made the same decision yesterday to restrict non-emergency visits 1 NEWS has learned.

A spokesperson for Ryman said a letter was sent to residents and their families asking visitors to stay away and residents to pick up the phone rather than seeing friends.

At Ryman village gates visitors are being temperature checked and are having details recorded just in case of the need to track and trace.

They must also appear well to be allowed into the facility.
