What part of isolation are you struggling to understand? It's a simple concept. Stay at home.

how about you be more considerate for ppl who leave alone and allowed to have one contact outside of their household.

No,  Aotearoa will not have a Military Government that is reckless to even joke about.

It's absolutely not a joke. Fancy/cheerful messages around how we are somehow above this or whatever is just that. If things get out of control, all bets are off -- no one wants this but hoping that it won't happen when things are out of control is fantasy. If people behave themselves and listen to the advisories, we will actually be one of the few countries on earth that will have it under control.

I was at the supermarket today. Not too busy at all. Saw a guy wearing rubber gloves but no face mask. He was holding his phone up to his face in his gloved hand.

funny thing, i've watched about 20+ videos where those in hubei province providing essential services in full hazmat suits doing just that. (not hospital, those specifically ban movement of phones, but all other people outside hospitals were doig that)

not sure if it implies anything but yeah, not a good idea.

Please take Mike’s point. Martial law is government by the military, look it up.

Still looking for the appropriate term for what the next level up is. Anyone?

And I have. To believe in the event that things absolutely get out control, the rule of law breaks down, and effective government seizes that we will somehow always be above military rule or any other ghastlies because our immutable values are just oh-so-powerful is the height of fantasy. Frankly, it's borderline imbecilic. Read a few history books, people. We won't get to that point at all if people will make a little sacrifice.

That's the point. Stick with reality and not high-flung and optimistic soundbites.

I believe under the Defence Act, the Armed Forces can be called upon to provide Aid to the Civil Power and there are strict rules around the role(s) of the military. Don't believe there is a simple and catchy term for it - so Level 5 works for me.

The military would need clear government authority to enforce further measures in conjunction with Police.

What you're "allowed" to do (or can "get away with) under leniency to allow limited contact under the rules isn't a guide to what you "should" do.

I don't think our situation is unique, with an elderly parent (with health issues) living alone.  In our "bubble" of three, one is on call for essential services.  That's the point of entry for covid in our household - and we cannot eliminate it 100% - if it gets in and before we know we've had contact with my father in law, there's a very high chance he'll die a dreadful death, alone.  We'll maintain contact, possibly drop some supplies off to him *with great care* if needed - but not one person will get close to him or put a foot in his front door.

It about not killing people.

Defence forces have already been given authority to enforce the Health Act/lockdown measures:

Are all the people cramming into places like Bunnings and garden centres the next version of allowing people to race into NZ before self-isolation rules take affect? Mate went to Bunnings today and it was packed, they told him they are staying open until 11:59.

I guess the number of cases over the next few weeks will answer my question.

Thanks for that. So the bits that are missing at the moment is the enforcement because we are currently at level 3. What the streets will look like tomorrow is currently an unknown but from the tone of the link you posted there will definitely be enforcement.

Thats not good. Do Bunnings realize that if anyone is at the store in the time then thats where they have to stay for the next 4 weeks? that would be awkward.

Do you disagree with Jacinda's decision to allow people living alone to have contact with one other person from outside their household?

I think it is a sensible compromise, and hopefully people will use it in the spirit that was intended.

No. Stay at home. How is this hard to understand? Stay at home. Three simple single-syllable words. Stay at home.

205 probable cases in New Zealand now. Six people in hospital - three in Wellington, two in Rotorua, one Waikato.

Don't worry - let's all go to Bunnings instead and think about having more contact to alleviate our boredom!

The thing some people are going, you'd think they want everyone to die.
