gchiu:Of course the phones I bought in China never received the alert ...
My Chinese phone got it fine. It's running stock Android, no vendor "value-add", so everything just sorta works.
freitasm:
What a silly comment. It's not used at every opportunity. It's an emergency. The message is not hitting some people. This is just another - very valid - way of reaching a huge number of people who don't watch TV, don't read newspapers and only get their information from "Facebook experts".
The "slippery slope" argument is not relevant.
And it sure beats the Australian Government, who sent 20 million plus text messages (and no, they aren't free).

Oh well, may be it's selective .. I have Huawei phones.
Geektastic:
Possibly. It’s a hypothetical question.
Tourists presumably can’t get to the airport to leave now.
You could easily make the same argument for these 10000 kiwis apparently about to turn up: they’ve known for weeks they should be back. Someone needs to shut the door.
As the Prime Minister said, it is harder and harder to move around the world with all major hubs closing borders. Likely whoever is overseas by the end of the week won't be coming back for a while.

Two Huawei phones here and one Nokia and all three received the alert. It must be yours is using the Chinese ROM or something else...

Following on from previous posts referring to re-registration for retired Doctors and Nurses. This is what I received today from the NZ Nursing Council:
Thank you for completing your declaration form. I am so sorry about the delay. We had a huge response from nurses.
We have processed your interim practicing certificate (IPC) and you are covered to practice until 31 December 2020. Your details now show on the public register.
A condition has been placed on your scope of practice: ‘Restricted practice for duration of Covid19 Pandemic’.
To register your interest in assisting with the covid-19 pandemic, please click the Ministry of Health link below:
Thank you once again for offering your assistance during this time.
Best wishes,
I went to the above link, filled out another long form. I am now awaiting "Call Up"
We live opposite, 5 minutes walk, to the Tauranga Race Course which opened today for COVID-19 testing, so hopefully I get posted their.
Good luck everybody and stay at home and stay safe.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
JaseNZ:
They should stop all the adverts on tv advertising this is open and thats open. Pizza hut was still advertised as contactless delivery. Would be great to have an advert ban for 4 weeks as well. No point advertising something thats not open.
My understanding is organisations have prepuchased the ad space and have to fill them . The media companies need the money and wont play nice. So the orgainisations cant magic up a new ad , so the original ad runs.
Also - I assume like I just emptieed my letter box of flyers from the usual organisations advertising specials etc. I wonder how long it will take for them to stop.

Make sure you get full hazmat type protection. Goggles, face shield and mask don't appear to be enough when dealing with a mass of people probably due to higher viral loads.
Which is why medical staff have developed more severe disease.

Good thing I got out of Bansky Studenec then:
That's the train station there.

I will SERIOUSLY take that advice on board. Though if you look at the photo in that link, I have my doubts about the supplied equipment.

Will delivery of junk mail will not be considered an essential service? I doubt it. Not sure about community newspapers though.

So your solution is to make people stateless? Sounds viable.
There are people who have been trying to get home and can't - it's been increasingly difficult for some time.

That's not rendering someone stateless, which refers specifically to the act of a person renouncing or an authority revoking someone's nationality in such a way that they have no nationality. That's prohibited by UN treaty unless you're Peter Dutton, to whom international treaties don't apply. It is a commonly held belief that a country cannot legally refuse entry to its own citizens, but I don't know what legislation, treaty or regulation gives force to that.
JaseNZ:
I am sure this has been mentioned in previous posts but the thread is getting pretty long now.
neb:
Has anyone dared to hit "Single Page"?
As the thread is getting very long - perhaps we should start a new one after 11.59pm - 2019 Novel Coronavirus Covid-19 Discussion (Lockdown Edition) anyone?

Just tried it, about a minute and a half to load, and 4.6gb of ram
The network inspector in Firefox kept causing the page to not respond
not doing that again
