Here is an example...(taken from kiwiblog) and it's just one scenario.

Let’s say you live in Auckland and have just brought a house at the median price of $875,000. You have the 20% deposit so take out a mortgage for 80% or $700,000. Assume a 25 year term and you get monthly repayments of $3,891 and total interest paid of $467.248.

Now let’s say you take the six month holiday. Your $700,000 owing grows at 0.375% a month so at the end of that six month holiday you owe $715,898.

You continue paying $3,891 a month but it now takes 27 years to pay off your mortgage, not 25 and the total interest paid is 501,450.

So you end up paying $34,202 more in interest.

Any guidance on where to report this firewood delivery business?

Firewood delivery is part of the energy supply and is deemed an essential business.

It needs to be delivered so it can be dried out for winter which they have in Auckland as well.

But interest rates are at historic lows and may drop further. How much more interest would you pay if the interest rates were higher without the hiatus?

gchiu: So to create beds they've cancelled all elective surgeries, you know, granny's hip replacement she's been waiting for for 6 months. But the nursing skills are also not equivalent. A general surgical or medical nurse doesn't have the training to look after ventilated patients or those very sick onesn which need careful fluid controls, managing arterial lines etc. That's for ICU and hdu trained nurses.

Would you rather granny be in a hospital like in Italy with covid patients in all wards and hallways after suffering a complication from a surgery? It's not essential it can wait, we have 2 friends of my parents in this situation(double hip and shoulder req) who have accepted this. If it does turn out there was significant capacity for electives during this 28 day period thats still a good thing because it's working as intended in limiting further spread.

On my way to work at 10am today for an essential service, looks like a lot of people are still flouting the lockdown. On my home not much had changed people in parking lots parked up chatting away in close proximity.

In China they had the police operating a fleet of drones over the city, and they were able to broadcast messages to people in the streets asking them to go inside and comply with the isolation requirements.

Now, where did I put my drone ....

With most people at home, and not in big buildings in the cities, there is possibly a lower risk of fatalities and problems if that occurs. In Chch many of the injured and fatalities were working in the city. I suspect it would be similar to the numbers if one occurred at night when most people are at home.

Experience tells me never to under estimate the stupidity of a sector of our community.

All those DIY admission in the days after xmas and I think there will be alot of DIY this month. Climbing on roof etc

We are both agreeing with each other by the way.

I was just countering the point the poster made that we should be cancelling when I expect all dhbs already have.
