It needs to be delivered so it can be dried out for winter which they have in Auckland as well.

I would think so too. Especially as for many, a wood burner is their main source of heating and also heats water. The last thing we want is for people not to be able to heat their homes during winter. Everyone's situation is different, so common sense needs to be followed, and hopefully that will occur out in the wild. .

Perhaps we need her on GeekZone to answer a few of our questions! Anyway, the question and answer were as follows:

Nina: I can’t walk very far to walk my dog so can I take my car just down the road, will the Police tell me to stop using my car?

Jacinda Ardern: You can use your car, of course people will need that for supermarkets, GP visits and so on and if you’re taking it somewhere to go a little further for a walk, just keep in mind, keeping as local as you can is really helpful. Look, the Police may ask people from time to time where they’re going so just be ready to give them an explanation, they might just check in that you’re doing what you need to be doing.

This is in stark contrast to the advice from the Police Commissioner that driving your car to the start of a walk is definitely not permitted.

I can see both sides of this argument, because on a radio talkback program (I think it was Magic) it was reported today that more than 100 people, many in cars, turned up to the start of a popular walking track, when there were only a few who usually did that. At the start of the track, walkers had to open a metal gate and they all happily did that, no doubt leaving their bugs behind them.

So, I guess this supports the Police view that using cars to get to parks, walking tracks etc is not allowed. But, equally, people shouldn't be allowed into supermarkets, all shopping should be done online and the goods delivered to their homes.

I'm just old enough to remember exactly this. We used to call it Sunday. And it lasted for most of Saturday too.

I watched the feed today, I'm 99% sure he said it was ok for a short drive to the park. The point was local. And short means short, not 5km. As in same suburb, a few blocks etc. I will re watch later

Again I refer to the Chinese precedent where no one was allowed to go out to get groceries. Someone delivered groceries for you.

I walked past a supermarket carpark at around 1.30 pm & it was barely quarter full of cars, no sign of a queue at the front entrance. So it seems people are getting the message. Very few cars on the road.

As stated a few pages earlier, here's the views of Police Commissioner Mike Bush talking about driving your car, he seems to think you can't drive it to the beach or park for some fresh air:

Sure, if Mike Bush has softened his view on the above statement, well that would be more consistent with the PM's views.

Well, I know stay at home is important.

Now everyone staying at home & most people will just go grocery once a week or fortnightly.

What happen if the cars can't start and battery dead because the car been sitting in garage or outdoor for people without garage for awhile especially weather getting cold and cars sometimes can be harder to start? Will road services even able to come and help you jump start the car if battery dead?

If you lives less than 5 minutes drive just to grocery shopping only, it wont be a good charge for the battery at all.

A lot people will be on tight budget now, if have to use taxi just to go grab grocery just because car battery dead during this lockdown, it will be just another expenses to build up.

When PM announced the new service alert on Saturday, on that day she said you are allow to drive. But now everyone changed of tone & just say stay at home.

I drive an old car, if the car sit there without start for awhile I know the digital clock will reset and the battery will be dead soon and can't start the car. I won't mind just to drive about 30 minutes around local and let the car alternator have a good charge the battery and then home. But police will stop and question you and will follow you, also people trying to be enforcer now. So no matter what you trying to do now people will judge at you.

All those DIY admission in the days after xmas and I think there will be alot of DIY this month. Climbing on roof etc

I can see that happening too, based on all the people that went to hardware stores before the lockdown.

I hope they bring out a directive to not do some higher risk things.eg only do essential maintenance, such as mowing lawn. Not get up on the roof, eg for painting it.

We have to remember that 80 years ago, our grandparents and great grandparents went to war to fight for the future of the world. Whereas we are fighting an invisible war, and all we are being asked to do is stay at home and watch TV or read, or do other low risk activities in the home, to save our future.

They should stop all the adverts on tv advertising this is open and thats open. Pizza hut was still advertised as contactless delivery. Would be great to have an advert ban for 4 weeks as well. No point advertising something thats not open.

My understanding is organisations have prepuchased the ad space and have to fill them . The media companies need the money and wont play nice. So the orgainisations cant magic up a new ad , so the original ad runs.

Don't know where you get that info from. Advertisers are allowed to pull their ads. If they don't have a nominated replacement they'll get replaced with filler ads.

Instead of going out of our way to pick holes in everything (there are bound to be contradictions and inconsistencies), we should be going out of our way to follow the advice as completely as possible. This isn't a hacker game where you get a reward for finding a back door.

That seems very logical to me, although it's getting harder to get supermarket delivery slots and usually at least 7 day's wait, so you need to plan ahead. And, quite a few of the groceries I was able to buy just a few days ago aren't in stock any more, so those who have stockpiled have made it harder for others to get what they need.

No one is stopping you from starting your car each day to keep it ticking over!! Just don't go anywhere :)

I think its more about limiting the the distance the virus can travel. Driving 8km to a park could spread the virus to a whole new neighborhood.

Our supermarkets are 80km away and there a fair few people further out than us. Won't be going there recreationally of course and our normal supplies will get us through the initial four weeks fine.
