Not certain if this has been mentioned but the numbers of road deaths & injuries should be down this year. And other accidental deaths.

Yes, good point. While all of us hunker down (except for me) (and many others) the lower socio economic people will find themselves with a bit more cash to spend, as will others better off. No way to spend it. There is a lot of heartbreak, frustration, but there will be a few small silver linings. Such as lower traffic deaths. Remember each death is one poor bugger but that leaves behind a raft of sadness for the living. Bottom line is we all need to do the right thing, manage it as best we can.

People like this, and the wasted inches of news columns, spoil it for the silent majority who are actually right now, in the process of clearing the virus from our shores. Demotivating. I hope the Police go hard. Reading between the lines of Mike Bush, he is giving leeway now, but that line is getting nearer for some.

I am just about to give up on this thread. Too hard to keep up. Have followed it from birth but didn’t look at it for a few hours today - now it’s grown by 10+ pages. And half the posts don’t really add any value - like this one.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I know. Mike Bush said if you need to drive to a place to exercise, its too far. What aggravates me is the desire to avoid contact is very clear. And so many want to push that boundary, argue, bitch about it. Maybe the Govt needs to cater fir the childish and ban cars apart from the supey and the chemist. That children like children. The Police began this with care and compassion, flexible, educate. All some do is be Richard Craniums.

We're pretty screwed with this level of planning which has been there from the start, not that you'd know it from those who are constantly singing the government's praises because they have literally no clue how bad things are going to get.

I mean when you leave your border open to countries which have major outbreaks like Germany for an entire week... then claim you acted "first" and "early"... Yeah... I mean what they've done isn't too little, but its definitely too late.

Its fine to criticise but its pretty poor when you fail to put forward what you would have done. Please do so.

That one is easy. Shut the borders, MUCH MUCH earlier.

Depending on whether they were trying to completely stop it in it's tracks or just slow it down.

That has now been done. Cars are for Supermarkets and Medical.

The experts have catered for the people who won't or can't lockdown. The virus will continue to spread, at a more manageable rate.

I suspect we might do a few weeks alternating lockdown levels. 3-4 weeks at level 4, 1 at level 3, back to level 4 etc..

People should only use their car for supermarket shopping and to visit a doctor during the coronavirus lockdown, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says.

Ardern also had a message to anyone who socialised outside their self-isolation bubble: "Stop you are putting people's lives at risk".

Are supermarket workers getting hazard pay? I'd imagine their normal pay probably isn't that great (I'd assume minimum wage for many of them?), I wouldn't want to be in there at minimum wage at the moment.

I did my first supey run today, post lockdown. PITB, had to line up, some stuff was low or no stock, but who cares. The staff were great, I told the checkout chick this was my first time, as she explained I have to pack the trolley, I have to fill my own bags in the foyer or carpak. it was hers as well. They are in the front line and doing their best, good on them.

We could have done. Jan 26 would have been ideal. What little we did then was criticised, as in the early days, the vast majority of us get a cold, or sniffles. We had seemingly valid reasons why Hubei had high transmission and high death rates. Hindsight.

Oddly we never shut the borders here, it still hasn't happened, that's why the vast majority of cases are imported. Kiwis are still flying in. Should we have shut them out 2 months ago? I hear what you say but its not that obvious. Right now we have few cases. None have hit ICU until today in Nelson. Until today all few hospitalised were stable, some are not as stable today. No deaths. In the greater scheme of things, we are doing more than ok IMHO.

When I watched the coverage on “One News” I was intrigued to see intrepid reporters out and about interviewing people getting their exercise. The reporter had a mike on the end of a boom so they were more than two metres away. But the mike, complete with a fluffy windshield appeared to be a lot closer. Within spitting distance as it were. I wonder if it is disinfected between interviews? And who packs it up at the end of the day.

That Nelson patient has been in ICU for a few days now. As has been characterised elsewhere they were doing well until they suddenly decompensated needing mechanical ventilation.
